If you do a bit of research on the guy, it's clear the dude was surrounded by violence his whole life. Only white kid in a black school when MLK got shot (you figure that one out), only male role models were his crazy racist father or a Vietnam vet teacher who called him a faggot constantly, spent his 20s being harassed and assaulted by the freaks who attended Black Flag shows. He's gone on record saying he would walk the streets as a teenager looking for people to fight because it was the only way to release stress or something. His demeanor from back then makes a lot more sense when you put it into context.
