We booked David Liebe Hart at a DIY venue like a decade ago and a shit ton of people showed up, dude was singing about how he wants to fuck an alien girlfriend, people were laughing and he was looking around like he didn't understand why. There's an outsider art museum in my city too and there's just a really fine line there between actually appreciating what these people are doing and exploiting mental illness. Daniel Johnston wanted to be the Beatles but everyone treated him like some kind of sadboy lo-fi indie god. Obviously the answer isn't to just not give these people a space to present their work so idk, it probably just comes down to how we consume it.So yeah idk it is a dumb term and even though everything is a dumb fuckin term, IDM, shoegaze, etc, I'm not surprised that the people at RYM chose to get rid of outsider, it's kind of loaded and might not look good for them.I'm talking out of my ass though I don't really use RYM like that and I have no idea why they got rid of it.
