ITT: Goodwill bin -core
>>130493907Lawrence Welk and Lawrence Welk's pals the Lennon Sisters.
>>130493907we've made fun of Steve in the /mu/ in X year threads before. not that it was undeserved or anything.
Tubular Bells
I got a few records from the record store free bin back in the day. Pic related.
I see a lot of older soundtrack and Broadway cast recordings. They must have churned those things out by the millions.
Trini Lopez anything.
really, any 60s AC/MOR acts like Steve & Eydie, Bobby Vinton, Bobby Goldsboro, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Herb Alpert, Robert Goulet, etc infest thrift stores like the plague.
With CD's it's always those lame 90's pop albums that sold gazillions
I got this one at the thrift shop back in the day
>>130493920Ask boomers. Welk was notorious for his shitty easy listening slop and his TV show's audience of 60-75 year olds.
>>130494210
>>130494212How dare you forget his bubbles. The erasure.
>>130494212not that most know it, but he had been a bandleader since the 1920s and always had a nostalgic soft spot for that decade's music. he used to lead what they called a "sweet band" meaning they played mellow chick-friend music instead of the "hot" bands like Benny Goodman Orchestra and Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. the tl;dr is the mf-er was always a proud square going way back.
>>130493920>Lawrence Welk and Lawrence Welk's pals the Lennon Sisters. They were signed to Coral and Dot, because I mean, who else would have them?
>>130494005Because his singing was just dime store Sinatra?
>>130493907
>>130493920>the Lennon Sistersi'm still stunned that all of them are still alive somehow
Just seven more months, /mu/...
>>130494461He had three Christmas albums but this one, the last, is the most well-remembered for some reason.
>>130494427well, yeah. the one exception was during his Coral period when they tried to market him as a teen idol and do shitty rock-and-roll covers, but as soon as he left for a different label he immediately went back to his diet Sinatra antics.
>>130494210>>130494221Pretty cool. Unlikeliest album I ever found and bought at a thrift store was pic related.
>>130494443>Lenny Bruce opened his stand-up routine on the evening of November 24, 1963 by saying "Wow. I wonder what Vaughn Meader is gonna do now?"[98]
>>130494618In keeping with the thread topic, Goodwills have a lot of Bill Cosby comedy albums but I never see much else outside that.
>>130493907>Lawrence and Gorme had two sons, Dave and Michael. Dave Lawrence became a film score composer whose credits include the score for High School Musical. Michael passed away in 1986 at age 23 of atrial fibrillation caused by an irregular heartbeat. He was working as an editor for a TV show at the time and although he'd earlier been diagnosed with the heart condition was in otherwise normal health and had no distress or prior warning signs when he died. His parents took a hiatus from live performances for a year while they mourned his passing.[2]
>>130493907I'm convinced these records reproduce through fission when no one is looking cause how is there still a fucking infinite supply of this shit literally everywhere like 100 years later
>>130494863Record labels did enormous printings of this MOR slop and there's almost no demand for it so they just accumulate like cordwood. Some of it was giveaways at gas stations or supermarkets in the 60s.
>>130494618Evidently nothing lol
>>130494461Como famously refused to remake his old 78 era records for modern hi-fi sound despite RCA's protests. He made an exception for Christmas songs. Perhaps he was right--rerecords seldom ever work and you can only really do something once.
>>130494961I agree that rerecords always suck, but he also didn't really get creative freedom until the 50s and quite likely a lot of his 40s records were songs he didn't like and didn't want to do.
>>130494961also too bad that Sinatra did way too many remakes of his 40s hits in the 60s instead of focusing on new songs
>>130494971Too bad his croaking frog voice was not up to that material.
>>130494971I've never understood Rod Stewart. I remember him being huge in the 90s but I've never seen anyone consider themselves a huge fan and he doesn't really have any standout songs. How did he ever get so popular?
>>130495064Never mind. I just listened to Sailing on youtube and one of the top comments was "This was the song played at my husband’s funeral 4 days ago. He loved sailing."
>>130495064There was folk/singer-songwriter Stewart in 1969-73 and then his cheesy pop/disco phase in 74-83.
>>130495084those are all bot generated comments btw
>>130493907Who was this guyApparently he was pretty popular because this album went gold and it's everywhere at goodwill but he's been totally memoryholed
>>130494443I can smell this pictureThat smell of old records at the secondhand store is why I don't collect vinyl
>>130495119I don't think you understand how retarded boomers and third worlders are.
