I can't agree with those who say it's the best Kinks album because 3 or 4 of the tracks should have been left off and replaced by superior outtakes / b-sides

Brainwashed absolutely sucks. One of Ray's worst attempts at social commentary and it doesn't even have a good melody.
None of the other tracks are that bad, but Australia and Mr Churchill Says both go on too long.

It's Kinks at the height of their powers. More cohesive and ambitious than some of their earlier albums but more focused and restrained than a lot of their later work. The perfect medium.
