will there ever be another band like mineral? they were one of the first bands that really got me into emo, especially second wave like sdre, promise ring, appleseed cast and texas is the reason. ive never been able to find anything to scratch that same itch.

I'm sure you're looking for recs but when I think of Mineral, I think of the time I sat under a tree and watched them at Riot Fest. Not many people showed up for their set but it was beautiful.

Knapsack and Far apart might just do it.

Boys Life - Departures & Landfalls
The Jazz June - The Medicine
Broken Hearts Are Blue - The Truth About Love
Braid - Frame & Canvas
Pop Unkown
Kerosene 454
Sky Promises Rain
Christie Front Drive
Hoover (though more post-hardcore)

I'll leave it there cause I could go on and on

I hate this type of emo, the SDRE/Mineral vein that's super lethargic, singer caterwauls with no real melody in mind, I find it almost offensive that this is the stuff people suck off instead of the more Jawbox-influenced stuff

>the funniest part about this is that minerals vocals are what drew me into it. I know a lot of bands that have similar instrumentals to it but i haven't found one that comes close to mineral lyrically. i like texas is the reason and sdre musically, but promise ring and appleseed cast are especially good to me because of how similar lyrically they are to mineral.

Empire! Empire! (I was a Lonely Estate) gives me similar vibes.

Yeah, but they were from the same time period.

it was a mistake from trying to reply to multiple people at once, not intentional

I listened to the op album and it’s pretty bad. Some tracks from the debut autoplayed after and they had some juice at least. Jawbox is too good to influence these kind of bands.
>>

Not OP, but first time listening to The Jazz June and I can see Brave Little Abbacus being inspired. Obviously they were into a lot more bands, but I see a lot of connections. Great recommendation, great album so far
I know it's very typical with emo bands, but it's so sad how so many flew under the radar during their tenure

sorry, didn't mean to reply to you lol

I think The Jazz June oscillate wildly between urgent Jawbox-influenced stuff and slower SDRE type songs, makes it hard to call myself a fan. Can't say I hear them in BLA, could you elaborate a little more on that?
>>
>>130503963
Yeah I really like that Jazz June record, pretty energetic, many such cases of bands producing epic debuts then vanishing, sad shit man when you think of the potential and what could have come next

apart from the obvious spoken word, I feel like this song could something BLA would make, but without the freneticism/mathrock style. Personal, but with a strong post hardcore sound. I'm not a music critic to be honest, so I don't have the vocabulary to express with similarities, but I feel they are there.
>>
>>130504065
Dude chill with jawbox dude, this isn't a post hardcore thread my guy
>>
>>130504107
Jawbox aren't really emo, but they were a huge influence on a lot of the second wave stuff, and J produced a lot of the classic second wave stuff. I'm using them as an example of musical lineage

Emo is just post-hardcore lite. Dont see anything wrong with him mentioning them.
