I think I got it: it's a self-parody.
Not in a bad way, though.

The guys are oldfags now who are probably rethinking their whole edgy geogaddi phase as cringeworthy. So they decided to joke on both their younger selves and their fanbase by selling the album with a very unsubtle dark theme and aesthetics (the name is "Inferno", ffs) but making it their most funky (and sometimes even funny) album yet.
And towards the end the album actually becomes surprisingly genuine and touching in its optimism, ending with a positive tone (instead of Geogaddi, that ended pretty bleak).

Being said that, I'm thinking based, even if its not their best album. It also helped I wasn't treating this album it as the coming of the messiah as some fags were doing around here.

>wow guys it finally clicked
this album came out just some days ago
you're saying it as if it was a struggle that took years to get it lol
it's simple downtempo beats with a spooky wooky vibe

Everything you're feeling is the truth. I was ecstatic when Tape 05 dropped and since then we just found out my mom has cancer in these last few weeks. I feel like this album is a gift from God himself, almost knowing I just needed this while dealing with this time. I say this because I've never had such an emotional response to music in my life.

No, it actually clicked on my first listen, it confirmed in the second. I'm just saying that because the reaction in this board has been pretty negative, so I'm trying to maybe convince people to listen to it with a different perspective.
But /mu/ is full of contrarians anyways, so whatever.

I love inferno more than any physical being

I don't know if you're correct about them finding their old work cringeworthy but I do think they're having a lot of fun with Inferno and are being intentionally cheesy with it. TH was kind of the opposite, that was the peak of them taking themselves seriously and this is a step back from that and daring to have some fun.

There are genuinely dark moments though, like Blood in the Labyrinth vocal sample is nightmarish, I don't think there's anything cheeky about that.

Something interesting about I Saw Through Platonia is that it isn't necessarily a somber track, first listen you hear the beating heart go out and you assume that means its a dark ending, but the track is more mystical than anything else

Blood in The Labyrinth was the only genuinely spooky track imo
Very far from Geogaddi or TH, it's not an album that takes itself very seriously indeed

memory death too

The Process too, but the second half of it is kind of beautiful.
I'm loving all the interlude tracks on Inferno desu, first few days of listening my attention was mainly on the longer tracks but I'm realizing now how good the shorter ones are.
>>
>>130497588
I thought Memory Death was actually soothing. It's kinda bleak, but not spooky.
>>130497607
The Process was just atmospheric ambient for me. But it really feels darker than the tracks that came before and the ones after.

The last 2 tracks of Inferno have a "YOU" vs "I" duality and a slight emotional contrast.
I read it like "While you retreat in time and space...I saw through Platonia"
It's like they are acknowledging the feelings they evoke in their listeners with the first track, they cherish it and indulge in the memories and in the childlike wonder with us. They fully affirm it. But then I Saw Through Platonia starts; the nostalgia and the childlike wonder is still there but there is a general urgency to the track and an underlying unease with the beating heart functioning as the tick of the clock. It signals something's wrong and prompts you to investigate. The song then ends abruptly. You don't know what happens next; did the heart stop beating? Or was it revived back into its former state? No conclusion.
Looking back into the past, cherishing memories and finding comfort in them is nice and warm. This is what the entire BoC fanbase have been doing for years, and we have to admit it's sort of become like a stereotype of the fans and even the band itself. But BoC is much much more than that. When you're so deep in that warm state, it can become stagnant. You may overlook the other important stuff until it's too late. And when we're in that stagnant place, we might become oblivious to the present and don't even see that cozy place itself may be in danger unless we do something about it.
Maybe they're seeing this through and communicating it with the titles and their sounds
This wouldn't be the first time they urge the listeners to pay attention to something and even call them to action. The most in your face examples would be "One very important thought" and "Energy Warning" but there are many others. I think Tomorrow's Harvest in its entirety was a warning.

i guess you're right about all that, but it doesn't make the music enjoyable. to me it's a complete mess, a headless chicken.
they couldn't even go all the way at switching to funky synthwave, it immediately goes back to retard trip-hop because they can't help themselves. as for the IDM bits of the sound, it's who they are but it doesn't interest me.

Great album to play in the car.

Blood in the Labyrinth is actually my favourite track, I find the female vocal sample to be beautiful, despite the obvious disturbing source material.

It’s actually become my one of my favourite boards songs.

How would you feel if you didn’t have breakfast this morning?
>>
>>130501729
You know this question is pure sophistry and doesn't say anything about problem solving/IQ. A hypothetical is supposed to provide contrary to the person's experience in order to provide qualia to someone without a direct personal experience reference point. If someone answers with the typical "i didnt have breakfast this morning though" even though they didnt directly follow the directions of the question the hypothetical the question implies doesn't present a flaw in the person's reasoning skills, its just a bad hypothetical. If they CAN answer the reverse after the "failure" (i.e well how would you feel if you DID have breakfast this morning?) then their reasoning/thought skills are fine.
This stupid test is retarded and an actual litmus test for people who don't understand real problem solving/intellectual hypotheticals.
Inferno 10/10 would listen again.
