>This is one of my favorite photos I ever took of the Ramones when we were on tour. The whole band loved and respected Elvis Presley, “The King.” Years later when people would ask Johnny who the first “Punk” was, he would ALWAYS say “ELVIS.” So we had to pay our respects at the Gates of Graceland when the Ramones van passed through Memphis in 1977.
>It’s a great photo, and although we banged on the gates, Elvis wouldn’t let us in! He died later that year unfortunately, a great loss. The Ramones visited Graceland again in 1996, and Marky and Joey took the VIP Tour. They closed the place off for them. Me, Johnny and CJ skipped Graceland, heading instead for Tupelo, MS, where we found Elvis’ Birthplace! What a great trip. Later in his life Johnny and Linda made friends with Elvis’ daughter, Lisa Marie, and they used to hang out all the time.
