I've been listening to a lot of obscure albums from lesser known bands for a while now, and all I can say is this; there's a reason the mainstream bands/musicians are where they're at, and why the obscure bands are obscure. Because the obscure bands suck and mainstream acts are good. Yeah there's a couple of hidden gems here and there but you'll have to wade through a sea of shit just to find one golden nugget, at that point you have to ask yourself, is it really worth it?
>>130536605just listen to what you like man, nobody's making you dig. I listen to what I like and it requires me to dig
>>130536605Plebeian hands typed this. But that's fine, most people are plebeians, its not necessarily something to be ashamed of. I'm sometimes a little envious of people who are so easily pleased. You do you OP, keep listening to Taylor Swift if it makes you happy.
>the general populace is right about everything
>>130536646I like digging for obscure recs but it's demoralizing listening to so many horrible albums, bad music hurts the heart and soul.
>>130536839I just go on tangents, like if an album really hits for me I'll look up similar shit from the same label/time period or from the band members etc. Not sure if you're just rawdogging random albums based on indie cred or something but the tangent method works for me and I've continued to be fascinated by music for the past like 30 years lol, might work for you idk
>>130536605That doesn't make sense.Every mainstream band started out obscure unless they were created out of whole cloth by music execs.
>>130536983no, THIS doesn't make sense and I dont even agree with OPby your """logic""" which assess a band's popularity before their potential audience has even fucking heard them, you might as well assess someone's musical career at birth
>>130536839>bad music hurts the heart and soul.says the person who listens to pop slop
>>130536605Hell yes it's worth it. I almost exclusively listen to obscure individual bands either self published or under tiny labels that I find on YouTube and it's some of the bset music I have ever heard. Getting to see these acts tour live has been really connecting. These guys don't want to be mainstream signed, they are thriving on individual control.
>>130536605just yesterday i was going through the "top 40 albums of 2026 so far" list on a site where the guy clearly prides himself on listening to obscure music and every album i checked out (7 or 8 of them) was like, i guess it's okay but it's just not any better than stuff from artists i've actually heard of. hammered home the point that "underground" definitely does not equal "underrated"
>>130536605too many people for whom "digging through the underground" is listening to bands with less than 100k spotify listeners
