The only time I ever talked about music with my dad was a roadtrip with him and best friend when I was a 16yo. Some new Nickleback single played and when it ended my best friend asked us how we liked it. I hate discussing Music irl because my taste is shit, especially with my dad. I was heavily into Metal at the time but too shy to talk about it.
Dad said it was fine and nothing else. I didn’t wanted to say it’s good or bad because I was unsure, some parts were good, some gay. So I just said in a pretty confident tone „Crazy that all their stuff just sounds the same“.
Literally a seconds later the guy on the radio station said „ahh, so this is the new Nickleback single. Amazing how they manage to sound differently every single time.“ Nobody said anything after this. Somehow this still haunts me.

I still don’t know what kind of Music my dad likes, except that he had an U2 album on his iPhone once

you're wrong. Nickelback was great, actually. and I never pretended they weren't.

Explain why they’re great

Hating on Nickelback just became way too much of a meme, they aren't actually that bad. They are still an extremely uninteresting band though, there's nothing to talk about which is why all the discussion surrounding it is guys either saying "Nickelback sucks" or Nickelback isn't that bad actually" because there is literally nothing else to say.

No they werent, at least the metal bands had riffs.

No, they are that bad. Terrible vocalist and not in a charming way, the rest of the band does nothing interesting sonically, and their songwriting ranges from dull to annoying. And they, along with their legions of soundalikes, were overplayed on the radio for an entire decade.
Zoomers think the Nickelback hatred was all overblown because they've never had to actually hear their garbage all day. They're reaping the benefits of Nickelback, Pink, and Black Eyed Peas driving everyone to MP3s and streaming and think this is how things always worked.
>>
they have a few good songs good, not i listened to this entire album twice today good

The only rock band that matters. Their songs are all bangers. Only gay söyboy bugmen and faggots aka Radiohead fans dislike this great band.
>>
they became reddit's designated "worst band of all time" back in the 2000s (i.e. the opposite of Freddie Mercury - music Jesus), so if someone really hated them I always assumed they were a brainless retard who goes to reddit for all their opinions. that being said they weren't good either, they were just a run of the mill 2000s post-grunge band, no better or worse than Three Days Grace, Seether, Fall Out Boy, etc.
