Why haven't you taken the CD pill yet?
>>
CD has no advantage over a lossless digital file inside a computer
>>
>>130543440
Because the amount of niche jazz, funk, R&B and lounge I can thrift isnt nearly as plentiful as the selection on vinyl.
Besides if youre in a flea market area you can get plenty of dirt cheap vinyl. Its fun.
>>
>>130543477
You mean that digital file that was ripped from a CD? Okay champ.
>>130543479
Sounds like a waste of time and money, by the time you get your hands on that old LP from the 70s it's already been played over 100 times by someone else which reduces the quality of the LP significantly, imagine paying any amount of money on a used piece of scratched up plastic, couldn't be me.

>imagine paying any amount of money on a used piece of scratched up plastic
i know for the most part it doesnt affect the music on the disc i still dont want any marks on the disc i buy. i cant imagine anyone collecting vinyl especially decades old vinyl. obviously, they have old records near the cds in thrifts, and you can smell them a mile away. that same moldy, musty smell of being stored in an attic or basement for years

CDs nutz

It's 150KBps PCM. You can stream that easily at half the bitrate with lossless. I have whole albums in FLAC at under 300MB. Add to that "streaming" isn't a set format and can include multichannel and higher sample rates, and you're a faggot.

>digital file that was ripped from a CD
or vinyl. or just dl'd as flac or wav direct from the source. its origin doesn’t matter, there’s still no point having and storing a bunch of physical objects plus the hardware to play them that does nothing else. theres no advantage in practicality, in sound quality or in cost.
>>
>>130543440
Imagine not having a large media collection spread across all physical formats and siloing yourself to just one. From 2005-2015, you should've been hitting the thrift stores and buying CDs, tapes, vinyl, reels, everything you could get
>>
>>130543690
There's an argument (albeit a really faggoty one) for vinyl as playback is dependent on media and device quality. You can't just record the output of a record player and expect it to be the best available. Audiofags invest a lot in equipment chasing the best possible sound.
>>
>>130543807
>why didn't you consoom more product??
>>

>It's 150KBps PCM
It's 1411kbps.

44100Hz sample rate, 16 bits per sample, 2 channels (stereo).
>>
>>130543477
i want friction and i dont like having my music instantly accessible at a moment's notice.
>>
>>130545660
1x CD is 150KB/s = 1200kbit.
You can cut that in half with lossless codecs like FLAC. Even at full CD bitrate, this matches early ADSL speeds (which is nothing on a first world connection). That means you can dump a lot more over a stream than Red Book is capable of, and you wouldn't exclude much of the world from being able to use it.
>>
>>130545868
Literally do the math:
44100 * 16 * 2 / 1000 = 1411.2
Even if you're using kibibits instead (dividing by 1024), which is not the usual practice for audio, your answer is still wrong.
>>
>>130545918
>kibibits
Faggot detected. You can never @ me again.
>>
>>130545932
If you don't insist that 128kbps MP3s are actually 125kbps, you're a hypocrite.
>>
>>130543690
>direct from the source
So the CD? Unless you know the artist personally and have access to their master audio you're not going to find anything from the direct source.
>>
>>130543861
This may blow your mind, but some record labels send the digital files to platforms where users can download them. Or do you think some intern at Bandcamp HQ Sitz around ripping CDs all day?
>>
>>130546558
You missed everything I said, likely because you can't read American. Vinylfags don't want a digital source. They want an analog source and analog master. The problem (or virtue, from their perspective) is that you have wiggle room in quality. When you record a vinyl's output through an ADC like a line out, there's a lot of variables that contribute to what that output file might sound like that don't exist with a pure digital transfer. One recording of an analog source might sound different than another just because the air pressure was higher and made RCA cables grip terminals better.
In most cases, I just say fuck audiofags, because I'm comfortable with a good digital source and result. But there's old out of print shit with weird rights issues that are floating around, or concert recordings, or demo tapes; that require an ADC recording, and it's always going to lead to debate about the best equipment and conditions for the job.
>>
>>130546652
I'm not reading all that
>>
>>130546439
Sounds like you don't know much about how platforms like Bandcamp work.

>I can't read American
I know.

>>survives longer than vinyl and cassettes
I have cassettes from the 60s that work fine. I have CDs from the 00s that just randomly stopped working
>>
>>130548174
>I have cassettes from the 60s that work fine
yeah because they have been played just a single time if any
>>
>>130548174
I've got around 500 CDs, mostly used, mostly from the 80s and 90s. Only one has disc rot and that's a known bad pressing.
>>
>>130543440
>Longer than vinyl
Proofs?
>>
>>130543440
>better audio, polished and consistent sound, even outcompetes streaming
Arguably. I will take it over vynil or cassette. Streaming is not a format.
>small and compact, doesn't take up much space
OP didn't own a portable cd player. They are big, inconvenient and they skip like fuck
>survives longer than vinyl and cassettes
There is a thing called CD rot, anon.
>easier to rip/archive
Redundant in these days when everything is released digital, but yeah
>cheaper than vinyl
>>
CD would've murdered the vinyl if the stupid loudness wars never happened. There's a reason classical fans all listen to CDs
>>
>>130550480
>They are big, inconvenient and they skip like fuck
I did have one and I never had those problems, maybe you just had a shitty player.
>There is a thing called CD rot
Oh you mean that thing that only happens if you're retarded and leave your CDs out in the sun or keep them in a moist and humid environment?
>>
>>130550699
>Oh you mean that thing that only happens if you're retarded and leave your CDs out in the sun or keep them in a moist and humid environment?
i don't have a salt mine nearby. they just sit there
>maybe you just had a shitty player
a shitty sony walkman. top of the crop.
