based, Steely Dan is garbage yuppie music. a single Big Black or Shellac song completely annihilates the entirety of their discography

Based Steve wins again

this is such a weird criticism.
i mean you can hate steely dan, but to hate them because they spent 2 wees on a guitar solo while albini would only spend 20 minutes is irrelevant to the people who bought records.
they all cost the same for the end consumer regardless.

it's actually albini who sounds like the most anal-retentive obsessive here.
"Bbbbut you just can't make a record that doesn't follow my goofy ideology on how records should be made."
>>
just don't listen to em then what's the fucking problem
I like some tunes off the royal scam and I also like some things Albini has done (such as convincing Sunn Oooo to finally record an album in real time in a real room real loud instead of layering shit)
>>
>>130559375
Reminder he produced the first a Bush album and the first Chevelle album. LOL!
>>
>>130559375
Not based but I still like Steve
>>
>>130559912
The point is the band members didnt even play it retard
>>
>>130560007
He isnt responsible for any bands sound, it's all them.
He insisted on natural recordings and very little if any post editing.
The couple Neurosis albums they recorded with him sound great just cause he gave them the space amd the freedom to just do their sound
Blame shit bands for sounding shit
>>
>>130560064
again, what does it matter to the end consumer if the song they liked was actually played by a session guy who worked on his part for two weeks rather than some drunk oaf band who spent 3 minutes on it?

it's albini with the more 'rigid' ideology of what constitutes music or art. "durr, a record should never be worked on for more than a few days because, well, well, just because. durr, it's not punk if you try too hard to perfect something."
>>
idgaf about how Steely Dan made their albums, nor who actually played the instruments. the fact that the end result sounds like bland elevator music is what I base my opinions on.
>>
Even when i disagree with Steve, i enjoy reading his rants.

Me too. In addition to being an insufferable dork, he was the most overrated soundboard guy ever.

gimme a break.
i'm not a huge fan, but they definitely have some bangers.
"Do It Again" is probably a top 5 rock groove song ever.
Deacon Blues, My Old School are definitely top flight too.
At least come up with a more original and ACCURATE criticism than 'durr, it's elevator music if the guitars aren't cranked to 11, bro"
