Peart loved Buddy, but Peart was not a Buddy player, not even towards the end when he really tried. He was a basher, extremely hard hitter, very little in the way of gladstone rebound or that type of control. You can hear Moon in everything he ever wrote. Annika has way more swing to her technique, it just sounds a little flat because she's lacking some heavy hands, especially on the toms. I love it, though. Good to hear a different alchemy. Its weird Peart got the reputation of a lite player. Perfectly technical, sure, but more in the sense of filling space. The Moon influence was especially strong on the earliest stuff but I think by Rush's peak he had carved out his own niche that was hard hitting and technically precise but with a light and slinky quality at the same time. Tom Sawyer is a perfect example of that and it's no wonder it was one of the drum parts he was most proud of.

Not going for contrarian, its just one of the examples I would give for that influence. I'm taling mostly in the "post-verse" portions, since Tom Sawyer doesn't really have conventional parts. That said, of course he carved his own niche, but if I had to talk about just his feet and hands, he was way more grip and rip, which is what he attempted to cure himself of with Gruber.Thing is, he wasn't broken. Gruber is more for your Steve Smiths of the world. Guys who consider it poor form to actually touch the stick.I think the outcome was still very smooth and interesting. Color Of Right is good example.

I hope they mix up the set list for each show. Witch Hunt is one of my favorite Rush songs, and I feel the vocal registers are achievable for Geddy.
