Let's talk about concerts we've been to recentlySo I saw Belle and Sebastian live this weekend and holy shit, they were so good. Like, they were transcendent. I've only been to a single digit number of concerts, but this was easily the best. Is there a better live act than them that still tours? I couldn't believe how good their music sounded live. It was a 2 night show, they played the entirety of Tigermilk and If You're Feeling Sinister plus a bunch of hits. Completely different setlist each night besides The Boy With The Arab Strap, which they played twice. At one point Stuart Murdoch climbed off the stage and walked all the the way through the crowd while singing and dancing.
>>130577384Looks like I missed the B&S tour date for my city. Cool that they were that good, their music is super chill so I wondered if it'd be a boring show but I guess not. Both of those albums were big for me when I was a teen so I've got a soft spot for em. Been forever since I've hit any of that shit besides Fox in the Snow which I do occasionally still go toMost recent show I saw recently that wasn't just local DIY bands was Foodman. Japanese "footwork" guy but his shit is super experimental, orange milk records etc. His set was super straight forward and didn't get weird at all, I saw him a few years back and that shit was fuckin bonkers. I also saw a video of his set a few days after the recent one and it was also super bonkers shit.I get that a DJs responsibility sometimes is to just play to the room and make people dance but it always disappoints me when I go out and take drugs to see a DJ known for weird experimental shit and they really cut back just to not confuse a dumb crowd. Saw the same thing happen with DJ Python last year, started off with some super deep weird experimental reggaeton, crowd was too stupid for it, so he just played boring shit until the room cleared. Sad
>>130577465Yeah their music is chill but it had so much more energy in person (partly because it was way louder). It helps that Stuart Murdoch is a chatterbox that knows how to work a crowd.I think the crowd is very important for live music. If no one is into it, it brings down the vibe for the performer and for people who were actually excited for the set.Sorry to hear about that experience of yours, don't think I've been to an "experimental" DJ show. My friends dragged me to see Zeds Dead and I thought they were terrible lol
>>130577544yeah totally, I mean it makes sense. If you're DJing a room it's not really about you, it's about the party. Don't wanna bring down everybody's dance night by playing some noisy fucked up shit lol, it's kind of obnoxious and egotistical to just do that anyway when nobody's feeling it. The issue IMO was the venue. DJ Python played a club that people in Chicago who just wanna dance go to, not a venue where people are going to hear some cutting edge experimental shit. It's a booking problem first and a city problem second. Some cities just have better scenes for this kinda thing and that's when they bust out the experimental shit. I respect the decision, I just wanna see these guys actually pop off lol.>My friends dragged me to see Zeds Dead and I thought they were terrible lolhaha yeah, Zed's Dead is kinda the definition of boring american fest EDM music imo.https://youtu.be/CjD-GUkatoYskip around this if you're curious, like this is stuff that would absolutely piss off a crowd of people who just wanted a fun night out lmao. It's what he really wants to do though and it's what I want. But yeah, even if you hate it it's way different than Zed's Dead lmao.>so much more energy in person I mentioned this the other day here but I felt this way about Kero Kero Bonito, expected a super chill cutesy show but it sounded HUGE and had so much energy. You never really know desu
>>130577672I skipped around and yeah that is grating, like it's whatever the opposite of ASMR is. Maybe it sounds better in person. I get it though, I like noise pop which is grating in a different way. >KKBVery jealous, wish I could I have seen them. I could see some tracks from Time N Place especially being loud.
>>130577751yeah lol, Foodman is really weird when he wants to be. The set he did a few years back was in Chicago with a few real actual footwork DJs so he kept his set pretty footworky with the experimental shit on top and that shit was ace.>wish I could I have seen themare they broken up now? Sad if true, super sick band. This was before Time N Place came out but they may have done a few singles from it anyway. They had a keyboardist and guitar player that looked like they were pulled from a noise band or something which was interesting, but it somehow fit perfectly with their super bubblegummy pop tunes. Can't find the setlist on setlist.fm, o well
>>130577772Yeah I think I'd enjoy that more with more traditional beats underneath it. But, my favorite club music is techno.I don't know if KKB broke up but its been quite a while since their last album, hope they go on tour again before they get old.Oh by the way I saw Camera Obscura last week too. They were great as well. Small venue and I was right up in front of the stage. Tracyanne Campbell is in her 50s now but her voice still sounds great. The crowd was super into it too, lots of screaming, it made me happy since I'd never even met someone that likes Camera Obscura but there I was surrounded by people that love them
Bump before bed, hope I can read about more anons concert experiences when I wake up!
>>130577813nice dude, been a long time but I really liked Biggest Bluest Hi Fi back in the day. Hitting it now for the first time in forever, Happy New Year still a heaterI actually keep a log of every show I've ever seen (excluding DIY shows cuz I could never recall all that). Not shit that anybody else cares about I guess this is an excuse to post ithttps://pastebin.com/raw/U7FLGt6q
I saw Rye Coalition out in the street in nyc a few weeks ago. They still kick ass.
>>130577384I will be playing my first show under my own name Saturday next weekI will also be singing in front of people for the first time, and will be playing the keys and the guitarI'm sort of terrified. I usually just play the guitar and the spotlight is not on me.what can I do to make it suck less? apart from practicing
Did merch last night for Aldous Harding, cool show, not the most talkative person though, a lot of awkward silence between songs lolSaw OXN at a festival a few weeks back, fucking excellent, did a cover of Scott Walker's Farmer in the City, great shitSeeing Nuovo Testamento later this month, hyped, saw them support Drab Majesty a few years back and completely blew them away
>>130578371>Biggest Bluest Hi FiBasedVery underrated album
>>130579331>what can I do to make it suck less?Just be confident, don't talk down on yourself on stage (I see openers with inferiority complexes do this and it's so cringe)
>>130578371>my bloody valentine How loud were they
anyone ever see Have A Nice Life live?thinking about seeing them next month, not sure what to expect though
Saw Ca7riel y Paco last year and was a great gig even though i don't speak Spanish
I don't go to shows anymore because it gives the strong impression of a medieval fair or comic book convention or something
i saw model/actriz a couple months ago and the show was incredible, one of the best i've ever been to. they sounded great (studio-like) and the front man was very entertaining and had elite stage presence
>>130581014Loud but not crazy. It was at the house of blues Boston so maybe they put a limit on their "loudest band ever" schtick. They did do a full 5 minutes or so of straight up white noise but I didn't have earplugs and it was fine>>130582332curious what you mean by this lol ive never had that thought
okay I'm autistic and I need some advice>be me>maybe seen a half dozen concerts in my life>haven't been to a proper concert in 10+ years>decide to go to Oasis '25 because it looked fun>everyone sang along basically the entire showis this the norm? or is just because almost every Oasis song is an "anthem" and thus easy to sing along to?I want to go to more concerts, but I hate the idea of just standing there while the band plays in front of me. but I also don't want to be the only one singing along
>>130581176I nearly got to see them at a festival but the tent was full, sounded great from outside tho
>>130583970>is this the normNot really, I think you're right about all their songs being anthems. At the concerts I've been to usually only a few songs get the whole crowd to sing along
Always remember to never do anything cringe in public because everybody *is* watching you and will be talking about you for months if they catch you stepping out of line
>>130585155This is true if it's something giga cringe like getting in a fight or causing a massive scene
>>130577384Seen Dan Deacon live in January, pretty great experience.
