This used to be off kilter, noisy, dissonant, droney, muddy music made by heroine junkies that listened to too much JAMC and Spacemen 3. Now it's shart. It's not to say that 'gaze doesn't have pop influence, in fact it was born from English pop, but it's just boring now.
>>130579683Brother, it's been 30 some years since shoegaze peaked. It's died, been revived, and blended with every other genre. It's hard to find that pure shoegaze sound at an extreme level of noise you'd find on pinkshinyultrablast, but here are some recents that I think are worth listening to. Hope you find something you enjoy.https://youtu.be/S2IoOtxLLNM?si=WNtpYDU5PBYQ3Ssrhttps://youtu.be/vu6PncdEhYs?si=q6VYsNlcL3u3tzwlhttps://youtu.be/8DWdPCdWaq4?si=lxkTmtzgZo2haElghttps://youtu.be/mk2nJMkMWuU?si=GwzANwx1cXwiUg3s
>>130579814A lot of those sound too modern for me. Full Body 2 is at least interesting, a bit like DDS but mixed with an indie band.
>>130579850Sounds like you're stuck with the classics then
>>130579886I'm somewhat ok with this, but I wish newer bands would be noisier and rougher. The same grit that bands like Medicine, MBV, Astrobrite, etc. had. Also more drone, there isn't enough drone.
>>130579931>I wish newer bands would be noisier and rougherModern music is all about social media numbers, you don't get followers with atonality.
>>130579943>Modern music is all about social media numbersThen it's not music anymore, it's "content". Social media ruined art.
honestly sounds like you have rose-tinted glasses a bit, but>Tijuana Taxi - Mirages (2026)people seem to like this for its guitarwork, kinda fuzzy and stoner rock and atypical for shoegaze these days, worth checking out if you're disenchated with modern shoegaze>speakerhug - Scriptures (2023)i remember this being pretty raw and punk influenced
>>130579962>Social media ruined artNo arguments here. I think social media has ruined everything.
Shoegaze isn't a genre, it's a band, maybe if you stretch the limits it's two or three bands, with a billion attempts at creating exact copies. New shit is going to sound exactly like My Bloody Valentine or it's going to be something reaching to include itself in this fake genre. And it was never good.
>>130579931I wouldnt exactly call this shoegaze but it might be what youre looking forhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wYphqs6PZg&t=652sheres one other, its one of my fav shoegaze albums. If you listen from about 24mins on it is mostly quite drone-y, the rest is more of a heavy alt/prog rock mix thoughhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nu5DOawI6Ro&t=1884s>>130580000cool recs anon, ty.
>>130580053That's the stuff I'm looking for man. Burning Orchids reaches noise territory which is my type of shit.
arent they having a parade this month
>>130580084For me that second song in my first post, Snooze by Vivienne Eastwood, is a 'true' dead center shoegaze sound, which isnt appealing to you. What youre looking for is on the noisy extreme of shoegaze, so I think you might have better luck just looking outside of shoegaze in the Pretty Noise/Drone world of things.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pmotTRDk1w
maybe try Occult Modem Settings - Something Died in the Wallits kindve at the tri-point intersection between shoegaze, dream pop and noisehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wXLuITEruM
>>130580053>>130580084Burning Orchids was based, it's a shame he made that one belter of an album then disappeared.
>>130579683It ran its course just like every other style has and will, what the fuck do you mean "what happened"
