Evangelion has contributed more to the culture than any free jazz "artist"

This is an 18+ website.
>>
>>130581857
Evangelion fans just buy figures with big tits and call people niggers on 4chan, meanwhile there's an unironic church where jazz oldheads worship Coltrane as a prophet (https://www.coltranechurch.org/)
>>
It's a very limited genre in terms of its effect. At its apex it more or less inspires feelings of mystery or related things, but never quite succeeds on its own without context - like a scene in a movie (the Ornette Coleman score worked okay in the context of Naked Lunch for example) or a certain kind of club, and so on.
>>
>>130581663
I like spiritual free jazz
>>
>>130581663
most of it might be, but when it hits it fucking hits
>>130581829
this wasn't always the case but it is now, unfortunately
>>
>>130581829
Evangelion is for gullible retards that think watered-down biblical allegory is le kino
>>130581857
Stalin contributed more to Russian culture than Mayakovsky or Gogol, look how that turned out
>>
>>130581663
the cry of the filtered
>>
>>130581663
At its best is absolutely cathartic and elevating, just pure elation, and at its worst is just annoying. But yeah, i'm thinking you're just filtered.

I forced myself to listen to ornette Coleman's free jazz record for a week to and from work on a 45 minute commute. Honestly it grew on me. The part around 8:20 sounds so much like a goose I had to read up and see if there was in fact a goose. There wasn't. I ended up buying the vinyl because it honestly changed my life.
>>
>>130587628
while this is too hilarious to be true, there is an ornette acclimation window of 'like what the fuck?" to "ah ok i dig this"

Skip to 8:20 and tell me I'm wrong. I have some geese, and when they're making their little happy honks, it sounds identical to this

for me it's the duck getting stabbed at 4:43, absolutely brilliant
I can just feel my brain gaining new wrinkles as I listen to this
>>
>>130587703
Funny thing is that's probably Ornette's worst album of his free period
>>
>>130589832
what's his best?

hell yeah. My Favorite Things is one of my favorite Coltrane tunes for live versions because that I - II progression Tyner does just lends itself to such gorgeous solos. Plus Dolphy is just the fuckin best. Dunno how this version escaped me, it's solid

>>130581663
thats like, literally the point
>>
>>130581663
When it's good it's good. When it's not it's useless.
There's a pretty big noise scene in my city and a lot of those guys end up doing the free jazz route. It's mostly completely substanceless. I'm sick of weirdo musicians playing kinda jazzy shit, I want jazz musicians playing weirdo shit
>>
>>130589996
I laff when people scare themself or shame others for not being cultured
>>
>>130581663
Free jazz is just random noise pretentious retards latch to, to pretend "nobody understands me !, waaah ! :-(" and be seen as different, "cultured".

>>

The people making the “random noise” were some of the best musicians of the 20th century. Even if the genre attracts pretentious audiences, you’re severely wrong if you don’t think the artists knew what they were doing.

>I'm sick of weirdo musicians playing kinda jazzy shit, I want jazz musicians playing weirdo shit
Bingo, the best free jazz was made by dudes who spent years playing modal or bop or whatever. They know what conventions to subvert and break. Whenever some metalhead or power electronics guy gives it a shot they can't ever improvise for shit, kek.
>>
it's like listening to someone who has nothing to say but can brag for an hours
