What makes proto-punk so much better than other flavors of punkt hat came after? Also more stuff from the 60s/early 70s that's raw and noisy like this?
>>130584514Speak for yourself you faggot holy shit. The Stooges are a rocking Hard Rock band that's all there is too it. Classic rocking 70s shit. They inspired punks but they aren't punk.
>>130584514These guys influenced almost everybody else I listen to. Even fucking Suicide
>>130584514my favorite era of punk is unironically the mall emo Punk Rock era. I feel like melodically The Ramones for example fucking sucked. Literally some retard's attempt at "Rock" with only a middle-school level of instrumental skill
>>130584514mc5check out the live stuff by the who e.g. live at leeds, isle of wight, woodstockmany punks from ramones to minor threat to stooges themselves are on record as influenced by the who
>>130584790ramones had some great ear worms
>>130584790No, it's because that was explicitly targeted at children and you mentally still are one, and thats the only reason.
>>130584514>Also more stuff from the 60s/early 70s that's raw and noisy like this?https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLD9WLinkyEmit181dA-V9xpnF3bj5pqzr
>>130584831Seething retard. Mall screamo mogs your shitty Henry Rollins approved bands
>>130584514Neve consoles and Scotch 111 acetate base tape.
>>130584514>What makes proto-punk so much better than other flavors of punkt hat came after? The Clash's idea of "punk" is for the types of losers who only want to view the transgression factor of music only through a political/ideological lense. The Stooges were just nasty and fucked up purely out of a desire to be those things. They weren't pretending it wasn't what it was, which was a dirtier, more unhinged version of rock n roll for whoever wanted that. The other flavors were mostly about brandishing a message as explicitly as possible while The Stooges just wanted to test the limit of making something truly ugly that still kicks ass.
>>130584850If it was good music malls wouldn't be closing everywhere.
>>130584514Because it's not punk it's either hard rock, heavy psych, or garage rock which are all better
>>130584938Hot Topic hasn't closed which is what propelled all that culture or rather Hot Topic was propelled by it.
>>130585081It's also all anime and pothead merch now.
>>130584922ramones did diss too tho
>>130584514Cause they weren't trying to be "punk" and make a scene. They were just hard rocking degenerates.
>>130585090that is kinda part of emo culture tho the weed not so much but thats in all music scenes more or less
>>130584514Here's a mega-obscure protopunk album from 1969https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAMJ_bPpZy4
>>130585217Uh oh the cramps stole these guyses act
>>130584688>Even fucking Suicidesource?
>>130584514there is a lot of proto-punk sounding punk, like the damned, television of course, wipers, swell maps, the gun club, the fall and of course pere ubu. Also if you like the kinks/who kind of proto-punk, guided by voices is great.

>>130584514prelude to boogie is in that similar repetitive groove kinda vein with saxophone and allhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_Ywv9_thHg
>>130584514Because stuff like The Stooges is just amped up rock'n'roll. It's primal and sleazy but above it all it GROOVES. I find that later punk bands just tried to be the fastest and angriest possible and left the rock'n'roll groove behind.
>>130584514Because it's actually good music for the sake of being good. It's real Rock and Roll, and last examples of this existing to be honest. I love 60s garage rock, proto-punk and first wave us punk like the Ramones, Johnny Thunder, Richard Hell and the Dead Boys. >>130584790I'm honestly curious, what records from that era do you actually recommend and like? I still remember when that stuff was really big. It all sounded like a commerical watered down middle school version of Lifetime to me. And I fucking love Lifetime.
>>130584790we live in a society where people think this and say it out loud
>>130587147I know. I fucking hate millennials so fucking much
>>130584514The Sonics
>>130584831>explicitly targeted at children and you mentally still are one, and thats the only reason. You say this while defending the nursery rhyme tier band the Ramones of all things. There is no difference between Pet Sematary or Poison Heart to any of that other stuff you're crying about.
>>130584651lou reed and iggy pop sound so similar, i wonder which one is faking the other
>>130591540I always thought Reed sounded more like Bob Dylan
>>130584514LOL "punk"
>>130586473I disagree.I had them on shuffle with other 60's white groove rock bands like CCR and always ended up skipping all Stooges songs but I think it was Dirt that actually did have a good 60s bluesy groove going.and I went in as someone who believed themselves to be a Stooges fan but their musicianship was notably inferior to the best 60s bands I think.they did get better when James Williamson (I think his name is). that dude was a good guitar player.
>>130592479Dirt is a slow funk grind, I don’t think CCR could even play anything that slow
>>130584514what genre is LA Blues?
>>130592944heard it thru grapevine is pretty slow if I am remembering correctly.
>>130584514The sonics
>>130593846Whatever it is it's what they were doing before Elektra signed them.
>>130584790The Ramones and punk as a whole proves you can be shit and still have fans who enjoy your slop AND WE LIKE IT THAT WAY. Yeah yeah they haven't got much sauce but do any of us in this thread do? Like any of us could do any better. No on this board The Ramones are heroes AND THAT'S FINAL.
IDK why I never liked punk but I love the fuck out of the stooges.
https://youtu.be/ZpmJNZmC0us
>>130584514Proto punk was harder and more focused on distortion and feedback than the more commercialized sound that like came after it or something like that
>>130585728>sourceAlan Vega himself, who said that he only got into music because he attendes a Stooges concert
Yeah, nohttps://youtu.be/JVDJ2-2MFWg
>>130596369so they have more stuff like it?
>>130593846Free jazz/noise rock
>>130600532https://youtu.be/btunkAfWqIY?si=djjy-md2S_ytya62
>>130601309Never heard this before. Awesome sauce!
>>130585217>Alan Roy Franklin>Former guitarist and singer-songwriter based in Florida. Led his groups Blues Climax and The Alan Franklin Explosion as a frontman. Franklin was eventually convicted of child molestation and is now a registered sex offender.Yeah, that's not getting a reissue until the Dems get a stronger hold on things.
OP likes punk but just to spice things up, not as the main ingredient. Simple as.
>>130591492>>130591492Never said anything about The Ramones
>>130602338Iggy said he listened to a lot of pioneering avant-garde/noise acts from the 50s and 60s. I'm surprised he never made more tracks like this
>>130605755It’s interesting but it’s good Elektra and John Cale got them writing songs. Imagine no I Wanna Be Your Dog and No Fun.
