My library is reaching around 100 GBs of ALACs, since I was an iTunes for Windows user before I started using a Mac.

Now, the problem is that the Apple Music app is horrible. It's INCREDIBLY slow if your music is on a SMB or NFS network share, so I had to use a spare SSD to store my music on. Obviously this sucks as now I have an SSD dangling off my laptop. It seems to be just iTunes but with Apple Music features added on. They've done no optimization at all.

What are my options? I'd like to use Last.fm, which is why I stuck with the Apple Music app since the desktop scrobbler supports Apple Music/iTunes on Mac, and the iOS scrobbler works, even though I need to manually press scan to submit to last.fm.

I'd also like to sync to my iPhone, although I am thinking about modding an old iPod or buying a dedicated FLAC player so I can quit using the built in Apple Sync and so I can quit using ALAC.

subscribe to apple music and never look back

subscribe to spotify and make a playlist for each genre i enjoy (non of them are rock)
>>

I haven't used spotify in a while, but for some reason it was really slow when I was dragging and dropping songs into playlists. Also there's no smart playlists unfortunately.

Use legacy iTunes to consolidate files, not Apple Music
Then use Foobar
>>
i keep FLACs on an external HDD and MP3 V0s on a SSD. streaming will never be accepted in the patrician scene. is foobar2000 much different on Windows compared to macOS?

I use foobar2k cos it doesn’t do any of the weird bullshit that seemingly all other media players do, like they all scan your library and build their own little database of what you have. so when you dl a new album or if you change stuff like edit tags or add album art on stuff you already have your media player doesn't see it until you rescan the folder or click something to add new files. theres no scanning or adding shit with foobar, you point it at your music folder when you install it and it sees everything immediately.
idk the technical details of exactly what its doing differently and why, I just know that foobar is snappy and instant with everything it does, and my library is ~15x the size of yours

I just use nested directories like a normal person and open them in foobar. I don't want any software to manage my library

I subscribe to streaming.
>Inb4 some variant of the '[x] not on streaming' argument
If there's anything not on streaming that I think is interesting enough to check out or an album I find important to me, I'll buy it on vinyl. That way if it ever does get removed, I have a backup.

I just use spotify

with a CD collection

i tried a bunch of different audio players and decided that musicbee is the most convenient one for me
>>
>>130593842
sorry, i missed that you're a mac user. i'd recommend harmonoid then. it also comes with built-in iast.fm scrobbling feature and is just as good as musicbee in many ways
>>
foobar fucking sucks on mac

If you don't mind me asking, how do you manage playlists? I'm coming from iTunes, and I'm kinda confused. I can save the playlists as fpl or m3u8.

Should I just make a Playlists folder in my media folder and save the m3u8s there? Do I need to re-save every time I update a playlist?

music directory with flac and mp3 directories inside of it, mp3s for when flacs don't exist
beets to change filenames to the standard I prefer based off musicbrainz or discogs
mpd reading the music directory
ncmpcpp as a front-end
you can get all this on a mac if you still use one
for listening to shit outside of the house, I just use youtube vanced, or throw a few albums on my phone. I've considered setting up a server and using subsonic or whatever the fuck people use nowadays but I can't be fucked, youtube is good enough.

idk, i don't use playlists

i only downloaded ilmc & listened to it a couple times because Lucy Bedroque is opening for ninajirachi on her australian tour and i bought a ticket to see Lucy Bedroque. Probably iPod Touch or Delete.
>>130593988
what's the difference? it does everything i need it to do.

Get a NAS or turn some shit into a NAS and use Plexamp (if you wanna fork up a lifetime plex pass) or Finamp for the FOSS/free solution.

Actually a complete life changer
