how the fuck do I get good at guitar why am I such a pathetic player
>>
>>130591082
Give me your guitar if you don't want it
>>
It's a thing you won't do so don't sweat it
>>
just keep playing it its not rocket science bro
>>
I feel bad for guitar players sometimes because they don't have rigorous study methods like they do for learning piano, they also have to rely on tablatures which is a fine formal but the problem is that a lot of the shit uploaded online is made by amateurs who don't know what they are doing.

This. Just practice. Get a teacher and develop some discipline.
>>
just play bar chords lmfao
>>
>>130591082
watch absolutely understand guitar on YouTube and do what Scotty says

I literally have: small hands, fine-motor skills issues, and a fucked up left pinky (from taking a slapshot as an ice hockey goalie). Yet I taught myself to be able to play guitar through sheer force at 16 years old (20 years ago).

There are some things I can't do, and I did have to adopt my own kind of style to make it work. But I play guitar every single day, and write original guitar-based songs that some people enjoy. I play in a band with more talented instrumentalists, but we exclusively play my material.

Sometimes if I overdo it, especially when playing bass, the tip of my injured left pinky hurts so much I dream about lobbing it off. But that's how much I love playing guitar.

tl;dr - the answer is sheer force. If you want to, you will.

One man’s curse is another man’s blessing. Shitty tabs will help to train your ear because you can’t take any of it as gospel and actually have to rely on your ability to recognise intervals, rhythms, etc.

>>130591082
If you want to be better than 99% of players, all you need to do is practise to a metronome. That’s literally it. Most of the fuckers you see on stage playing “expressively” and “with feeling” have felt fewer pockets than they’ve seen a vagina.
>>
>>130592749
Its hard to train your ear if the song is drowned in distortion and other effects
>>
>>130592982
So practise songs that don’t do that. Literally anything with a clear mix and a recognisable guitar part. Keep it simple stupid. You’re playing to get better, not rock out with your cock out. That comes when you’ve put the work in doing the tedious stuff.

Tab isn't really all that great a format. It's easy to learn, but impossible to read quickly enough to get the fluidity you see with dot-notation sightreaders. It also doesn't teach you how to read parts for any other non-guitar instrument.

I suppose it's better than nothing, but the best players either abandon tab for dots, or for learning by ear.

slow down and practice with a metronome
>>
>>130591082
just practice for 9 years to become intermediate maybe
>>
>>130591082
intonate your guitar. if you cant figure out how, bring it to a music store and they can make it so it actually sounds like it’s supposed to

Traditional mechanical metronome or digital? The mechanical metronome is aesthetically pleasing but digital ones can do more.
>>
>>130593715
Digital for sure. These days physical metronomes are only useful for demonstrating how a pulse works. If you’re learning different time signatures using a click track will be far more helpful.

literally doesn't matter
google has a free metronome
every daw has a built in metronome

People are too distracted by the blue hair to worry about the shitty playing

Unless youve got it in you it should take years to get real good and only 1 year to write songs decently. When I started around age 18 I was playing about an hour a day almost every day or more. By the end of that first year I knew the scale shape up and down the neck in every key and all the chords you would ever need essentially (or the means to figure them out), I had a bit of a rhythmic foundation in playing the drums so that part was easier and I could count my notes very effectively, definitely divide time between picking and fretting individual scale notes and strumming your full chords, I like to record me playing 1-4 chords on my phone and then let that play for up to 2 minutes while I improvise lead to it, ton of practice you gain from that. Also focus on barre chords early on because its gonna take a long time to master that pressure with the index finger, side of mine and the tips of my fingers are hard as hell these days, I'm now 12 years in and I can firmly say I was very pleased with my rapid picking I was doing the other day

kek thats literally me, if I had the bros though I could easily songwrite for a better guitarist but those fags are primadonnas when you meet them, i dont understand how someone forms a band with strangers unless theyre some sort of virtuoso that blows those guys away so you develop a cult like following from your bandmates
>>
>>130594149
lame ass looking guitar, my dad worships this guy btw

>>130593659
Most guitars are in tune down the neck when you purchase them new
>>
>>130591082
you probably have a weak back. back muscles put a lot of the power and control in your playing. lots of people just focus on the fingers.

my guitar skills as good as my song
>>
>>130591082
Attempt to play the distortion, think all those notes are through, all those notes bean already played one million times already, but no one ever played that distortion and i’ll tell why and it’s because that distortion is wrong and nobody’s ever played that distortion before owing to the cause also that the distortion only sound wrong also to the context of that those notes already been played a million and one times by ben bean’s baked beans bush’s ben from castle in the sky airship continuing to fly can get to be important anyway or something like that
>>
>>130599779
Well said brother
>>
>>130592504
Like I said, something he won't do.
>>
>>130591082
play along with slowed down youtube videos of songs you like.
i used to suck, but am now kinda happy with my general musicianship (guitar is only instrument i know).
after a while, you get a general understanding on how songs and music works. (it's a lot simpler than it appears ...... all popular music like guitar rock generally revolves around a few musical scales)

i can't do fast lead runs or anything, but i'm not super interested in that, but i understand the basic scales behind them and it's just developing hand-eye coordination to execute them if that's what you want to do (after developing your ear for scales and chords).
