the origin point as I see it is stuff like Spaceghostpurrp and all that underground trap from like 2012-2014, where just about every song would have a slowed down version of the beat for 15 seconds at the end. SGP is from Miami and speeding shit up is also just a Miami thing apparently

In any case though, where fully in the era where a DAW is the instrument of choice. They all have a knob for tempo and pitch, it's an easy trick to make something sound sick immediately. Can't make a B section? Just modulate the pitch down 2 semitones and call it a day.
I've been a zoomer music hater for a long time but this is one of the few things they do that I actually like. I liked it when people like SGP did it too.
