Thread to talk about Gen Z icon Neil Young, known for being a celebrated musician, cowboy and international sex symbol
>>
Harvest moon is still one of my favourite songs of all time, I want to dance my girl to that tune someday, but I need to find her first, haha.

broken arrow is his first great song and it's ruined by shitty 60s "experimental" editing. i also wish the chorus was better

just listen to the live version at canterbury
>>
I haven't listened to any of the stuff he's put out in years. Last album I checked was Psychedelic Pill and I thought it was great.
>>
>>130615530
Most recent album I heard was Barn and it was just okay
>>

I either love or hate this guy's music with no inbetween. Like shit on the same album too. I love him most when he goes nuts on the electric or when he does some sad song solo on the acoustic, I don't really like his mellow chillout stuff at all. I love how obviously drunk he is on Tonight's The Night
>>
>>130613079
he is one of very few artists with at least 10 albums worth listening to
>>
The big crime blompf song from last year was embarrassing
>>
been listening to him on and off for past 2-3 years
grown to be one of my favorites, love his long depressive jammy stile so much

train engineer hat, he collected toy trains for years and apparently has a whole barn to house his track setup, probably enjoys larping as an old fashioned working man

I've never heard that before. But honestly, that sucked. Sovlless.

Only a Neil Young show could bring together alt/grunge kids, aging hippies, young hippies, bikers, yuppies and moms.

I am seriously struggling with the fact that my GOAT was a train autist. It was the boomer equivalent of collecting anime figurines. I just can't take it seriously, it gives me the ick
>>
Remember that time he made a big spectacle of pulling his music from Spotify, at great personal expense to himself, because he could not in good conscience tolerate having his work on the same streaming platform as someone with politicial beliefs different than his own, then the very next day, Tidal announced a deal with Young to stream his music exclusively, then one year to the very day later, all his music silently reappeared on Spotify? And it was all totally genuine and moral and not just some publicity stunt from the beginning?

Ramada Inn is top 5 in his entire catalog

The train thing came about because of his sons, both born with cerebral palsy.

Look kid it's sometimes it's important to separate the art from the artist. Okay?

You won't have much to listen to if you take that attitude. Rod Stewart, Jools Holland, Roger Daltrey, Elton John, Ringo Starr, Phil Collins, Johnny Cash, Frank Sinatra, Eric Clapton... didn't you know railway modelling was the masonic handshake of rock? Tamiya Extra Thin is one hell of a drug.

WHY DO I KEEP FUCKING UP
>>
>>130621015
Oh I totally agree. For some reason though, Young's holier-than-thou attitude and virtue signalling irks me so much, it dampens my ability to enjoy his music.

I think that's Jimmie Rodgers reference

Genuinely can't take his lyrics seriously. Great acoustic guitar player, some interesting experimentation with his electric guitar stuff, and I'll even say I think his SONGWRITING is good - the structure of the songs, the feelings they try to evoke - but his lyrics are just silly and don't mean anything. It's like 1-2 steps down from Paul Simon and maybe 3 steps down from Tom Waits

Also he sounds like Herbert the Pervert. Obviously his vocals are their own unique charm or whatever but cmon
>>
The last really great thing he made was Le Noise. It was the last time it actually sounded like he was doing something different and cool.

The problem with Neil Young is he's been churning out 10000 crappy albums every year for a long time now. Either unlistenably bad or just really boring phoned in stuff.

Here's some examples of the nonsense he's made in recent times.

should musicians just retire after they (the good ones) come up with their two or three new sounds?

i mean those new stuff links suck, but probably mostly because any fan has heard those styles of his a million times. but he actually is (kinda surprisingly) still pretty good at playing his signature sound it sounds like.
