This is the reality.Age plays a massive factor in who we look up to & who we look down on, yet people don't seem to realize it.When musicians get older, many lighten up because they've already had their success. The struggle to become successful & respected is gone. As a result, they put old beefs aside & even praise younger musicians, whereas they often wouldn't have praised musicians their own age or younger when they were young.Music fans are the same. Many rock fans seem more comfortable praising female performers than male performers due to the jealousy & envy they feel toward successful men. This is why the likes of Olivia Rodrigo receive praise, while the male equivalent, whether in pop or rock, would be crucified.If David Bowie were a new musician today - young, slim, wearing spandex & makeup, with screaming fangirls following him everywhere & he were either in rock or as mainstream as possible in pop, many male rock & metal fans would absolutely hate him. He would not be respected.Try to imagine it. Don't imagine being a teenager looking up to an older David Bowie. Imagine being in your late 20s or 30s when a twenty-something David Bowie suddenly appears on the scene. How do you react? You don't look up to him in awe, that's for sure.
