4chan was created because moot and his IRC ilk were considered too elitist weeaboos for even any of the mainstream anime forums of the early 2000s and they wanted to make a site modelled after a Japanese imageboard.
4chan only began to create other boards that weren't anime or porn because /b/ (initially called Anime Random, but changed to random) couldn't hold millions of niche discussions as some shit would get slid off the first few pages and 404'd almost within half an hour and never get bumped.
The earliest non-weeb boards were made for people who like weeb things to discuss non-weeb things with people who like weeb things.
It's completely fucking expected and normal that people will be using anime reaction images on /mu/ while the actual text content of their posts has nothing to do with anime and is actually on-topic.

You people only get fucking uppity when it's anime reaction images. You don't do this when people starts an on-topic music thread with a /co/, /tv/ or /v/ image.

This hatred for anime on 4chan comes from people treating this site like twitter or reddit or any other social media.

Social media wasn't initially made for a specific topic in mind. When twitter or reddit were new you could talk about anything. There wasn't really a culture or a norm you were expected to fall into and these sites grew into large heterogeneous hives with thousands of different communities with nothing in common.

And then these people come here to 4chan. 4chan wasn't created as some nebulous catch-all for 50 different discussions from the get-go, but was created for anime fans and gradually expanded into non-anime boards when /b/ started becoming too fucking fast to actually discuss things without things sliding off the front page. Unlike twitter, leddit, tumblr or whatever other site that doesn't have a foundational topic or theme, 4chan was themed around anime and initially everything that wasn't an anime board was populated by anime fans who wanted to talk about non-anime things with likeminded people.

And of course with popularity via the various controversies you get influxes ot outsiders from social media over the decades who see and treat 4chan like social media. Because on reddit or whatever other normalfag hive these people comes from, it completely makes sense to ban anime in certain communities because these sites don't have the foundational connection to anime and Japanese media that 4chan has, whereas on 4chan crying to ban anime/Japanese things on any board would be like screeching that you can't enjoy the fucking beach because there's too much water in the ocean and sand on the shore.
