They never had the progy edge Metallica had, the memorable songwriting Megadeth had, or the extremeness Slayer had. I like to think of them as the ACDC of thrash, just simple rock and roll.

It gets said in every discussion about this, but the "Big 4" was determined by popularity, not whatever thrash purists think is the best. Yes, Dark Angel were 10x better than Mansax, but they also have 10x fewer fans.
