They suck. That's it, that's the thread. Not even a Pumpkins fan, but Billy Corgan was right about them all along. Faggot dickheads, them and all their fans
>>
>>130644214
How dare 25 year old dudes play music at volumes that their peers, other 20-somethings, might like, instead of playing scream-o for teens like Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins did because teens bought the most music.
>>
>>130644214
what bland political statement are you pretending to be offended about this time?
>>
Yeah, them or Dinosaur Jr
>>
>>130644694
fuck you, their first three albums were great
>>
You’re a zoomer. You’re opinion is irrelevant
>>
>>130644214
Hi Billy
>>
>>130644214
massively overrated and its super cringe how every zoomer artist name drops them
>>
>>130644214
Got em seething with this 100 percent true factual statement. Pavement is the drizzling shits.
>>
yea pavement were smug, fraudulent, dishonest cunts. posterchildren for the ironically detached generation. not worthy to lick the dirt off corgan's boots.
>>
>>130644214
Pavement sucks (and not in a Primus way either).
>>
pavement and pumpkins were both goated bands
>>
>>130644214
Profoundly mid astroturfed band the way a lot of the big 90s indie bands were. Loaf mogs

Great songs, great soul, great tone, great fun. And thats just a handful, they have an insane amount of quality non album tracks.
>>
>>130645057
Because Pavement had personality and creativity in spades. Their music has so many angles to it. Fun, emotional, wild, edgy, nostalgic
>>
>>130645683
This theyre both top 10 artists.
>>
Seriously, why not just listen to the Wipers or something

All their songs are super disjointed.

So what really happened between Pavement and Corgan? Is the basic gestalt that they dissed the Pumpkins in a song (a playful jab according to them) and Billy's held a 30-year grudge over it?
>>
>>130645819
This. People who hate pavement are a total bore

He also went to Cate School, a 'highly selective university-preparatory school for boarding and day students in grades 9–12'

Pavement is a meh forgettable band, The Smashing Pumpkins is an all time great
>>
>>130644214
I grew up in the 90's listening to everything from alt-metal to DIY hardcore punk and haven't heard them once in my life.
>>
>>130644214
I grew up listening to slanted and enchanted and crooked rain. i sort of moved on from them and grew out of it for a long time. then i see this pavements movie come and im actually sort of interested to see it. then i dove back into their music a bit and some of it still holds up tbqh
>>
The Geese of the 90s
>>
>>130646470
pavement's entire discography has held up extremely well and is arguably the best of the 90s.

>>130646422
the pumpkins are pretty mid if we're being honest. yeah they've got some good singles and one great album and one massively overrated double album people prop up because of aforementioned singles that is otherwise filled to the brim with filler. the pumpkins are good players that sometimes struck gold but they made a lot of generic, forgettable and trite hard rock. and malkmus was right, if you had an option between STP or the smashing pumpkins anyone with actual taste is going to pick STP because they were obviously the better more interesting band with superior songwriting skills and corgan has never gotten over the king of 90s indie exposing the world to this fact
>>
>>130646539
Cmon Pavement isn't THAT bad
>>
>>130644703
I think you meant the next three after their first three albums. Easy mistake to make. Happy I could correct that for you though.
>>
>>130646771
fuck no STP is not better than SP wtf
>>
>>130645830
Why do you retards pretend to know the music you dislike? Yes the fall and wipers influence them, but none of them have stuff like carrot rope, range life, Father to a sister or motion suggests to name a few
>>
>>130646418

whos this?

>>130647049
not just fall and wipers but also the gun club and swell maps and wire and even sonic youth and REM to some extent.
>>
>>130647070
The Stone Temple Pilots, they're elegant bachelors
They're foxy to me, are they foxy to you?
>>
>>130646993
core, purple and tiny music mog every pumpkins record and the singles are better than the pumpkins best too
>>
>>130647049
I just find them boring, I'd rather listen to Helmet instead like lol

>>130647049
Urusei Yatsura is influenced by Pavement, The Fall, and a bunch of other bands.

Pavement rules. Their first three albums are incredible.
>>
>>130647127
Ok, Millennial Buttrock enjoyer
>>
>>130647766
This. Wowee Zowee is tremendous. They followed a very similar trajectory to Built to Spill.
>first album is lofi indie brilliance with genuine eccentric edge
>second album they swing to a poppier and more mainstream direction, still maintain a good degree of indie experimental quality and a lot of direct fun
>third record is both bands biggest ambitious artistic effort, Pavement makes a double LP with a huge range touching on numerous genres, all realm of feeling and emotion, experimental songs, punk songs, walls of sound, erratic energy, all whilst attempting to land a major hit (rattled by the rush) and one of the other singer/guitarists best songs (Kennel District), then with Built to Spill Perfect From Now On is an experimental indie prog masterpiece, almost no other indie artist accomplished what Doug did on PFNO
>>
>>130647127
Siamese Dream mogs any STP record by a good margin, objective statement, and 1979 from Mellon Collie is singlehandedly a stronger and more timeless track than anything STP ever did. I'm a big STP and grunge fan btw
>>
LMAOO this guy thinks STP isn’t 1000x worse than Pumpkins. No one could do it like Billy. Pick up a guitar, develop taste and then listen to Siamese Dream again.
>>
>>130647880
The lofiness of BTS is not satisfying to me. They obviously peaked when they attempted to make studio albums (PNFO and KILAS) whereas Slanted and Enchanted has that guitar sound and perfect drum mix that you can’t get on the other albums. Modest Mouse mogs btw
>>
>>130646771
I'll preface this by saying Pavement is a top 5 band of mine. Smashing Pumpkins is a top 10 band aswell. I won't deny Mellon Collie has its flaws and could be stripped down to 1 very good regular length LP, still over the course of their first four albums they had some titanic songs wayyy above Stone Temple's best songs, Drown, Rhinoceros, Cherub Rock, Geek USA, Luna, Mayonnaise, 1979, Hummer, Where Boys Fear to Tread, Poreclina, Galapagos, Perfect, Here is No Why, Zero, Ava Adore. I could go on and I haven't touched his B side and unreleased track albums which are packed full of gold, for example
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NhjUPpeFyw&list=RD8NhjUPpeFyw&start_radio=1
Billy had the good will to pack together all these unfinished riffs and songs for the superfans to see the gorge full of material that he was working with. I always talk about how brilliant Jimmy Page was producing and layering his guitars to have the most impact and thats why hes one of histories greatest guitarists, Corgan was essentially the Jimmy Page of the 90s.
>>
>>130644783
IT'S WILLIAM!
>>
>>130646539
Geese is ok and Pavement is legendary

>>130646771
speaking of Pavement holding up well I've slowly been finding gold among the jicks albums, its more sparse but every once in awhile. find a Share the Red or Let Them Eat Vowels, feels like the echo of the Pavement spirit still resounding today
>>
>>130647927
Modest Mouse is firmly the #3 of those bands, very very good but still firmly right behind them. As for not liking Built to Spill when they were gritty thats a bit hard to comprehend, when I first heard Ultimate Alternate Wavers it was one of those life changing moments, first song is great but Three Years Ago is godly, its got this perfect chill indie hook, great tone and vocal melody
>the other night i dreamed i had a sudden realization, that everything bad that could happen to me would
the entire flow and the line that follows is an all time indie moment, then you have the title track which has some of his most powerful vocals and some amazing guitar instrumental sections, truly the proto PFNO moment, Shameful Dread has a beautiful intro section, great builds and a strong climax, where the 2nd album lacks these the first has plenty. Nowhere Nothin Fuckup is a blast with a great hook, and that amazing "in america every puddle gasoline rainbow" section aswell as a very effective use of Velvet Underground lyrics from loaded, and Lie for a Lie while mostly instrumental has one of their strongest verses of all time
>once in awhile theres a girl i don't know in my dreams, she reminds me of a lot of people, some that i've never seen, and shes peeeeeeerrrrfect
a feeling we all know. The fourth record while very good also reflects Pavements fourth. Its got great songwriting, great production, and overall its just too mainstream, too bland, not lofi or daring enough. KiLaS is a bit better than Brighten the Corners but it certainly doesn't hit the highs of Built to Spill's prior records imo
>>
>>130645832
>it's a good thing we make shit music that's only enjoyed by retards and fags

Their lyrics are shit
>>
>>130646771
Stone Temple Pilots being a little better than the Smashing Pumpkins does not take any weight away from their 1991-95 hot streak or even their 1998-2023 inconsistent quality times
>>
>>130648343
You made me try UAW again. I’m enjoying the songs rn especially Get A Life.

>>130646314
Insurance agent isnt some amazing career

>>130646292
Very good song. I also love jackal false grails
>>
>>130646005
Thats why indie rock is better than regular alternative most days
>>
>>130646005
how? their songs are some of the most simple and catchy stuff ever. thats of course a good and bad thing depending on what you like.
>>
>>130648788
Happy to hear. Personally ive been trying to gain appreciation for their albums past #5. I actually spoke to Doug personally and I wanted him to tell me how great perfect from now on was (I asked a leading question) and he ended up just saying hes feeling his modern music nowadays. Idk they need to like take note from st Vincent or something and combine that type of shit if they want to evolve. Get a life always was the attitude track of that album imo
>>
>>130647927
Brother, There’s Nothing Wrong with Love is literally Pavement but good.
>>
>>130649305
I get UAW but Nothing Wrong With Love mostly doesn't profit from its lazy production. Long Drive (MM) and Slanted (Pavement) did it much better.

They are the best rock band of the 90s. Not overrated in the slightest.
