Have you ever played music in front of your coworkers? How did they react?
>>130648646honestly positively even if what i like is more unorthodox I just show them the beautiful parts of the music im into and they end up liking it. If it has a long intro or a long build up or any of that i dont show them that part i skip to the crescendo or the main lick or the most memorable part of the melody because normies dont have a lot of patience. I know how they think. They can get filtered at home when they look up the full song.
>>130648646"coworker music" is just cope for people whose music taste is just as mainstream, but not as overplayed
I mostly work with young Latinas, so coworker music for me is like bad bunny lol
>>130648646Anyone who says coworker music is an NPC in denial
>>130648708Any of them have fat asses? Very important.
I worked a vacation job and told my coworker I liked Gamelan music. She went to the first result on youtube and played it to her husband through the phone.
>>130648646Kek I work warehouse and one guy exhaled though his nose hard and shook his head in disappointment over Misfits so he retaliated by increasing his tiktok ai storytime volume. It was fucking Astro Zombies too what did "rape this land" trigger him or something? Well he does watch religious ai videos sometimes so I guess it kinda makes sense but it was funny as fuck either way I mean shit it's really not that edgy in '26, lol.
>>130648685it's like when people use the terms "npc" or "normie" as if they aren't the same as everyone else using those terms. these adult babies just want to feel special i guess.
>>130648685this, niggas call imagine dragons coworker music then turn around and listen to kendrick lmar
>>130649330>Kendrick Lmar>turn this tv off turn this chili off ay some outta do it ay ay! all I ever wanted black grandma national!wtf are these lyrics bro
>>130648685I bet you felt very smart typing that>the only thing wrong with all this music that has been deemed shitty by so many of my peers is that it's overplayed>everyone would think Ed Sheeran and Imagine Dragons are hidden gems if it wasn't so popularContrarianism for the sake of contrarianism makes people say the dumbest shit.
I once played the entirety of Jamiroquai - Emergency on Planet Earth and Space Cowboy while doing a huge warehouse restocking. This apparently is the "taste of a Black Panther member" which means she must've thought Jay Kay was a Harlem nigga from 1974 after all
>>130649524yeah a white boy making acid jazz / funk is the taste of a Blak Panther member which are racist af towards whites.
I played Modern Love by David Bowie once and the cute blonde girl couldn't stop laughing and whenever she would take an order you could hear her trying to hide her laughter. Still got to hit though.
>>130649503you just can't read, anon. I'd subscribe none of that and I didn't imply any of it
y'all aren't any better just because you listen to shit no one knows or cares about
>>130649872t. played AI music over the speaker and got clowned on
>>130649853There's another dumb implication in your post, that all mainstream music is inherently bad. You only seem to be concerned with the popularity of the music, not where it ranks on a scale of this shit slaps, to I can tolerate this, to turn this shit off.
>>130649872hit a nerve there. why are you on a music board if you have no real interest in music?
>>130649872LOVED your post btw
>>130649872uh oh wpop tranny melty
>>130648646More coworker music:>A7X>MCR>Sleep Token>Paramore
>>130649889there really isn't, that's just your insecurity. there's plenty of mainstream music I like and I think is good
>>130649872rap is not music
>>130649960>just as mainstream, but not as overplayedIt's right there. The "coworker music" discussion does have the anthropological angle to it. But it's not just about the "coworker" being stereotyped but their stereotypical "bad" music taste. Your post tries to avoid this aspect of it entirely and pretend it's just a bunch of people who listen to nothing that couldn't be found in a Spotify playlist who think their taste is eclectic dunking on someone for putting on Coldplay. In reality most of us don't want to be forced to sit through Coldplay songs in 2026.
>>130650004wait you aren't arguing that mainstream music has its merits, but that mainstream music right now has its merits, but older titles don't? That's exactly the same thing I said. You genuinely can't read.
Why Imagine Dragons? Why do they like Imagine Dragons so much?
>>130650034Imagine Dragons is music for people who don't care about music. Every medium needs one
>>130650032From my perspective there's good music and bad music from any era. Some years are a little bit thin when it comes to mainstream music that's worth a shit if the industry is going through a period of creative bankruptcy. But whatever. Even if I don't listen to a lot of mainstream music and I'm thankful that I don't see threads about musicians I like on /mu/ very often unless they have Brian Wilson tier meme status I don't discount music just because it's mainstream.
>>130650034Take hits from a disposable vape you bought at a gas station while sucking down a few cans of some weird fruity flavored Monster energy drink. I think it will make sense if Imagine Dragons is the soundtrack for this activity.
>>130650061I'm very happy for you, anon, but I wasn't arguing against that in the first place
>>130649959damn this guy's breakroom must be filled with fat chicks
>>130648685>>130648732True. Enough about coworker music. What's some 'people who use the term "coworker music"' music?
>>130648646>be me>scary looking according to friends around me>new to job>trying to make friends>"oh what hobbies do you have anon?">"oh i make music sometimes and-">"OH WOW CAN WE HEAR IT.">"uh s-sure">play my soundcloud>https://soundcloud.com/sagehoge/i-miss-you-already>they all just stare at me>never bring it up again

>>130649190>I'M WARNING YOUyou should have waited for him outside and stabbed him
>>130648646I went to a karaoke with my coworkers and sang this song https://youtu.be/K-OEWWIUGgI?si=PyYgHuM9KwrstV_B after a romantic ballad. They were a little baffled with me singing that way, but they went along with it at the end
>>130648646early imagine dragons from 2009-2010 is based as fuck, it's a shame their name is only associated with the popslop they devolved into
Couldn’t co worker music be anything? Why do you think you know so much about people’s lives?
I played my ipod off the work stereo for years, in fact i dominated the stereo because I had been at the job longer than most and the manager worked the other shift. If it was a day I was trying to be affable and easy I played led zeppelin, beatles, rush, sabbath, smashing pumpkins, grunge, van halen, replacements, REM, Talking Heads etc. If I dgaf I would put in a lot of other shit and just occasionally skip over songs that weren't gonna work whether they were too quiet or too piercing, king crimson, can, 90s indie rock (this was fine half the time), melvins, helmet, slint, sonic youth, shoegaze really anything idgaf so long as it wasn't a wall of noise funny I just mostly had to avoid cursing.
>>130648685It's more the result of dying monoculture, a decade ago it would be just a mainstream music, but now it is personal algorithm driven
People who listen to coworker music are still more enjoyable to hang out with than rockists who are just miserable sad people who hate everything.
>>130653364I'M NOT SAD I'M NOT FUCKING EMOOOOOO!!!!!
>>130650697>yayYeah that part was stupid anon but it starts out cool. Also the ps1 intro is corny
>>130648646Yes, and it was a complete accident. I meant to play the album Population Override but chose this insteadhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W22FG0tgeG8
Boss took me out to lunch, but wanted me to drive, so I just put on Toro y Moi. I'd consider it coworker music adjacent, but it's really great for putting on in the car if you don't know your passenger's taste and just want chill background musichttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuPBr5sYCz0
>work in a grocery store deli>long ass time closing where we have to wash all the dishes and trays, so anturally I bring my BT speaker>put on traditional chinese music because tis really calming>they all look at me like Im a nut
>>130649190Are you both too poor for earbuds?
Some kids laughed when they heard the chick from flyleaf start her roaring. I tried laughing along and trying to get them to tell me their musical taste and theyJust froze me out.
>>130648646I work at a hotel and recently they set up the interface and speakers to the office computers so at night when everyone else is gone besides me I play whatever music I want that isn't too weird
>>130648646Yeah we have a weekly music league game going. It's pretty fun learning what music your coworkers are into.
>>130654811Based nut
>>130648646Mostly they like it, one other coworker in particular is a patrician too with similar taste in music. But the retarded nerd pleb chef got scared by Guillotine once.
>>130648646Please change it to REAL music>Plays NPC musicThat's better, such vibe *starts moving on place*
>>130655075that sounds comfty anon. sometimes I wish I worked at a place like that, where I can play my CDs
>>130656452It's pretty fun, I play Boards of Canada a lot because it's pretty chill and can be good background music.
heh you guys call that coworker music? heh try being subjected to this
>>130651252this
>>130648646I ate LSD at a Ween show with a coworker, and it's one of those bullshit tech office jobs.
I'm a big fan of coworker metal. Love talking to my coworkers about Ice Nine Kills and Falling in Reverse type shit.
Coworker music just boils down to "stuff I don't listen to"
I made a crass rap song about my workplace and showed it to my friends. I was also doing too many drugs at the time and wrote songs about a coworker and other stuff
>>130648646I play a bunch of stuff. Sometimes it's electronic music (techno, acid, idm, breaks, bass, gabber), sometimes it's rock (from bluesy stuff like ZZ Top to prog rock and jazz-fusion), sometimes it's the most basic bitch 80s pop/rock/metal hits. Jazz. I just listen to what I want, really. The only time I ever got a reaction was because he thought it was sad music (it was Henry Mancini's Lujon, wtf, it's supposed to feel like you're on a beach drinking a daiquiri and you got hawaiian hula bitches sucking your dick https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjsG3i6L9vw )My coworkers listen to country/western. But not the fun one about 70s coke or or getting in trouble with police. The boring whiny ass "Jesus is my pickup truck" kind that's easily replicable with AI.
>>130648997Would you kindly recommend some gamelan music?
>>130648646i work at a cafe and i put the cocteau twins on the cafe speaker. My 20 year old ukranian co worker asked me to change it and then i just told him to put whatever he wants on and he put on the top 100
>>130648763Not that Anon but I also happen to work with a lot of young Latinas. I live in southern Florida, most of them listen to reggaeton or like Colombian music like Juanes or whatever. And yes, the asses are fat, lots of them look natural too.
>>130648646yes, my coworkers know i listen to "raaaaa" music (metal) and they do the eye-roll "ok i'll listen" thing when i hand them my headphones. i'm like the kid showing macaroni art to their parents.
I once put on a Bond CD. One guy laughed when "Bond on Bond" (Jms. Bond theme) played. He thought it was cheesy.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTnGo72L2Js
>>130648997Hilarious and factual
>>130660124>Henry Mancini - LujonIn two days I'll be hosting a "classy" party (not with coworkers mind you) and the playlist opens with this. Since you're the first /mu/tant to ever link that same specific upload, I'll class it as a positive omen
>>130648646they laughed, and that was what I intended. I made up stupid and inappropriate lyrics to pop songs and it worked most of the time. Worked for Weird Al. Works for anyone with a modicum of talent.
I recently watched this videoI've never seen something that screamed so much "normalfag trying (and failing) at becoming based"
tbdesu if you have to actively force yourself to not be a NPC music listener, you'll never not be oneyou either have the music autism or you will forever be a normalfag
>>130663942at this point normalfags don't even reach the musical quality of the pleb anymore
>>130663942>"normalfag trying (and failing) at becoming based"Is this not a form of self-awareness? Even if it's still near the bottom
>>130664078they are self aware but they are at a total loss when it comes to improving
>>130648646>How did they react?With horror.
>>130648646I work a pretty sweet dishwashing job where i only have to put up with my coworkers for 5 hours a day. im allowed to have a speaker back there. i started working last year and every day ive been able to listen to 4 or 5 albums every day. Ive listened to entire discographies of many artists such aseminem, linkin park, sum 41, rihanna, one direction, jason derulo, pac, biggie, 3ohi3, akon, asap, juice wrld, peep, xxxtentacion, 50 cent etc etc etc etcthey know i listen to EVERYTHING
I had a coworker who's really homophobic (not that there's anything wrong with that) and one day I heard him play something that sounded a whole lot like ABBA and I confronted him on how he could be listening to ABBA yet call others gay.He told me it wasn't ABBA and ABBA is gay music but I said it sounded exactly like it and he got kind of flustered and I never got to know what he actually was listening to
>>130664854>they know i listen to EVERYTHINGSeems to me like you listen to EVERYTHING BUT GOOD MUSIC
>>130648646Yeah, normoids like my music taste
>>130665977This story is missing the part where you two had homophobic gay sex
>>130666306If you want it just write up some fanfic, bro, I don't mind
>>130664854You're a normalfag just like them.
>>130656767I would blow my shut clean off
