Is an Epiphone SG special bad? It's only $120 used so it's about as cheap as it gets, but I don't have much space right now. I could pass on it if it's far and away not as good as my lower-mid rangers. But I've never tried one so I'm not sure.

Music theory is literally imaginary. Why do you care if you know the notes? Are you retarded?
>>
>>130667634
it's a '66 head that's been rehoused as a 1x12 combo
nothing else really interesting going on with it, I just find it more convenient to lug around that way
>>
Just ordered one of these. They're $599 on amazon now right now instead of the normal $719. It's listed as a prime item with free shipping but is sold by 'austin bazaar'. I'm guessing the things weren't moving and were taking up more room than they're worth at the amazon fulfillment center. I'm just going to run it as DI with an hx stomp and as a vocal pa/monitor. I couldn't pass up the $120 off below msrp.
>>
>>130667657
Music theory is descriptive of physical mathematic ratios that occur with sound waves. It's about as imaginary as math is, as in it isn't arbitrary though it is a model.
>>
>>130667325
This. If you're going to get a semi just get a real hollowbody instead of the poseur. Otherwise you may as well just get a fucking thinline.

>>130667707
Cool. It looks like my '65 DRRI, which an amp guy told me has the wrong knobs for the blonde+wheat colours. I have no idea. I just think blonde+wheat amps are Fender's nicest looking.

I also have a boss rc-10r so the cube should be able to handle the drum machine and the hx stomp modeling on separate channels since it has 4 inputs total. Hoping to have a really good downsized rig for practicing. I need to buy two more external footswitches one for the boss looper and one for the hx stomp now though.

swung by the tech's shop after my lesson today (same location) to see what he thought about filing the nut. told him i was getting string slippage while tuning. he reproduced the problem right away, wailed on it a bit to check for tuning instability. it's stable as long as a string isn't stuck. probably not worth filing the nut, or at least waiting a bit until i'm locked into 12s

>>
>>130669568
it was a super ghetto trick that supposedly luthiers commonly use: i ran my mom's hair dryer over it on high heat for a minute or two, and then lifted it bit by bit using mint flavoured dental floss. there was a bunch of glue residue left over but i was able to pick most of it up by pressing the glued edge of the pickguard repeatedly on it to lift the bits off. and then i rubbed a small amount of coconut oil on it to clean off the remaining gunk. also its probably in my head but i swear the top sounds a little less constrained now that theres not a piece of plastic glued onto it..
>>
>>130669583
damn i actually could use that... my approach has been to play fingerstyle so i can handle the bass frequencies with my thumb and the lead bits with my other fingers so then i dont need another guitarist or bassist lol
>>
>>130669595
One of those and these >>130667333 for the bass and you can essentially make your own backing tracks.
>>
>>130669535
This is the only real way. A looper is good to have but cant substitute being in sync with another person.

yeah and the interface is pretty outdated and menu divey so you basically have to use the desktop editor so its a huge mess of wires from your amp and back and to the computer
Also you have to sacrifice a block to switch between running through the effects loop of the amp and running 4cm
Like if you want to bypass the preamp of your amp and just use the power amp you have to sacrifice a block to do an fx loop insert its not ideal
>>
>>130670029
The helix ones fix all that. And the foot switches and screen are large enough. You get 48 blocks on the xl. Unless you are just wanting to try an entirely new ecosystem.

>>
>>130670097
Yeah they're supposed to be entire pedalboard and amp replacements though. For touring musicians its a hell of a whole lot more portable than amps, cabs, and real pedalboards. The cortex is more of a sit on top of your frfr cabinet as though it were a head than a stompbox because it is so cramped. But it's obviously more powerful. I like that the hx stomp is a good headphone amp and can drive even senheisser hd600s. I have had the same hd560s for like 12 years but I may upgrade them just because I bought the stomp. I have a roland rubix 22 interface and I guess it may be a little quiet for them without a headphone amp though

If the guitar stays in tune that's all that matters. Grovers are perfectly good.

>>130670449
Not necessarily. They are easier to clean and lube, but closed-backs are meant to be maintenance free. It all depends on the quality of the tuner to begin with. That being said, you can get teeth breaking off the gears on old tuners of either style.

I once compared my 1x12 Mustang v2 modeller combo side by side with the real deal 2x12 Deluxe Reverb combo of my uncle.
They sounded different like day and night, although the Mustang is not a bad modeller imho.
The tube combo had some immediate bang and presence the modeller cannot reproduce. It's like you can feel the heat. The Mustang sounded like an unemotional digital audio source.
Yea 2x12 vs 1x12 but even with another driver the mustang wouldn't sound like that.
No idea on how more modern modellers compare tho

The Deluxe Reverb is mad expensive (+maintanance), mad heavy and limited so taking that route is kind of insane nowadays.

I also don't get why you'd need anything more than 1x12 for anything. Way too loud for home use/practicing/home recording (since Covid, a ton of music releases these days are home recorded sessions put together to a master after sending the Pro Logic files back an forth a couple times).
Too heavy to carry to a gig and a gig always has a PA anyways. Even band room should be good with 1x12 or just use a PA there aswell if wanna go boom.
>>
>>130670503
I didn’t think despite their age that they’d be significantly more valuable than the current Grover’s with more or less the same design, I’m seeing an entire 6 set that looks near identical for $50 on Sweetwater.

I like my tuners, they are original to my guitar, I was just wondering if the guy was talking sense or not.

Only thing I don't like about grovers is they add a lot of weight to the headstock. 9/10 times I will prefer a guitar with waverly or kluson style tuners just because of the weight but grovers are probably better at keeping the guitar in tune. They were considered an upgrade at the time.

Not him, I think he's talking about an issue with weight balance. Heavier tuners can cause the guitar to become head-heavy.
Personally, I doubt it makes much of a difference, but I've never A/B'ed tuner weights so I don't actually know.

>>
>>130670593
personally ive only ever noticed real head heavy imbalance where the guitar is really wanting to fall into your fret hand is with SGs and even then at least while sitting playing with a strap on mitigates it and standing you dont notice it at all
people will complain about grovers adding weight and then not even notice the added weight of a locking nut, it’s almost entirely psychosomatic

Until you play in a place where there are stairs. Or you need to load the thing. Or move it across uneven ground, like when you're playing at a hippie festival in the woods.

>>130670509
The entire premise of your comparison is flawed. You didn't eliminate all of the other variables besides the amplification technology, such as speaker type, enclosure size, EQ settings, amp gain stage design etc; you didn't do a double blind A/B test using short samples; and you likely didn't get close to reproducing the input signal exactly enough to have no audible difference because that's hard.
You just have a skill issue.

If modeler no sound like amp then bad
If modeler have make change to sound like amp then bad
>>
>>130670778
Ah, so your argument is that the stock presets don't sound exactly like the settings that your specific amp happens to be at on that specific day. Got it. I guess I agree.
This doesn't mean that the modeller (or a fucking solid state amp with a bunch of solid state OD and EQ pedals in front) CAN'T sound like it, it just means you're too unskilled to operate a simplistic user interface and haven't understood how harmonic distortion and EQ interact.
And this is assuming that we're talking about matching tones exactly, not just replicating the """character""" of an amp, whatever that means.

Mate, I tuned in the "same" tone in both amps (Mustang has the official Fender Twin Reverb as a selectable amp). You can tell how the way the guitar signal gets turned into sound is very different between the two independent of any EQ setting etc. I highly encourage you to do such a comparison yourself.

>>130670617
Pic rel. Both have 12" broadband guitar speakers. The Mustang has a 100W Celestion speaker, I would not call that one a dud. However the Mustang speaker has a much higher power rating to whatever (Jensen?) is in the Deluxe Reverb so the speakers differ quite a bit. But biggest influence is the amp circuit for sure.

Watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcBEOcPtlYk and maybe any of these https://www.youtube.com/@physik-der-elektrogitarre/search?query=r%C3%B6hre with subtitles. These two have done repeatable, well-documented, thought-out, blind (in the case of the German guy also double-blind) experiments with A/B comparisons.
No shit your two combo amps sound different, they have different circuits, potentially different EQ designs, different speaker configurations in different enclosures with different speakers; and you likely didn't A/B them with identical signals, short samples, back-to-back, with the same microphone in the same position (already impossible with different speakers). Your experiment is flawed.

Fender isn't exactly a leader in amp modeling. It's not going to be as good as neural dsp or line 6 or boss or universal audio. The universal audio ones that make the modeling a one and done clone may be up your alley if you find the others to have too many options.

Interesting, will watch. However they are doing mic'ed comparisons and I don't expect that many differences there. What I mean is mostly the playing feel and the sound when you actually stand infront of the amp. The response you get from a tube amp is instant compared to some digital stack, just feels different.
>>
>>130672020
Digital gear does introduce some latency because of the A/D conversion and the processing. You know what else does? Standing 6 feet away from the amp instead of 3 feet.

it's not all about recorded tone though. tubes respond differently to your playing the same way playing in the room with a loud cabinet makes your guitar respond differently

>>
Owning a fender has never been cool.
>>

>>
>>130674158
Yes, and? I can hate the company but like the instruments. I just don't buy those shits new.

The Super Distortion and PAF Pro are the only pickups worth using.

Anything, just learn to set their height properly
If you need more top end or more midrange or whatever, use an EQ pedal

>Skip the high-end acoustics unless you've got a climate-stable place to keep and play them.
This is the only thing stopping me desu.
My room is right above the garage and I live in the south
>Don't you have A/C?
Being right about the garage, front of the house & having my PC on a lot changes the temperature quite a bit.

I was just curious, making sure it’s an actually good $4k AR and not a gay meme reddit build
>>

Idk I think it would be cool to be a songwriter and just sell songs to people and collect royalties without actually have to do the work
>>
>>130674519
this. frontmen are tools squeezed to death for profits. the songwriters have the sweet life

How can they be proud to rip off a design so blatantly?
>>
>>130674865
same reason you learn songs and never write anything original. easier to perfect than to innovate

WTF is voice leading

I hate 80s guitarists so much, they’re all so gay looking

It's when the notes in the chord you are playing (the voices) don't move far (intervallically) to get to the notes of the next chord (i.e. choosing appropriate voicings for chords that are intervallically close rather than jumping around all over the place, seemingly at random). This is often achieved by finding voicings that fit in and around the same area of the neck and close to the same string set. There can also be special attention paid to how the melody note of the chord (the highest note in a chord is *usually* heard as the melody note) moves from chord to chord (this is important in Chord-Melody playing, as the name implies). Frank Vignola has some good stuff on Chord-Melody playing if you're interested in that.

I want to know what satin finish chinese companies use because I've played a jet and an EART and I know it's some kind of poly but it's the best kind of "slightly wood, slightly varnished" I've felt outside of expensive office furniture. Close second is my bud who scrubbed his squier CV's neck with some 0000 steel wool.

They aren't ripping it off. They're just making the same thing but much much much better.
