surely at least one of you can?
>>130671010It's fucking shit. There, you have been critiqued.
>>130671038anyone can say that, you have to explain why
forgot to edit the intervals
>>130671010technically correct but I think it would sound better if you began with a repeated Bb as that better fits the implied meter and part writing. (yes, I know you're supposed to begin with a unison/octave but sometimes a rule must be broken for the sake of a more important rule.)
my DOG has FLEASi guess its good

just in case you were wondering.
isn't the whole point of counterpoint that the rhythm is supposed to (at least partially) differ
>>130671379>>130671701very neat, thanks anon>>130671785this is first species counterpoint, an easy version of counterpoint for learning purposes, because learning the real thing in one go is impossible.also the point of it is to have multiple melodies mesh together well, no more, no less.
>>130671785no. species counterpoint is supposed to cover common rhythmic combinations and that includes combinations of whole-notes against whole-notes, which is referred to as first species counterpoint.
>>130671797are you studying at a conservatory?
>>130671797>>130671802I should've clarified I know nothing at all about music theory/composition/formal music education and I listen to no classical musicAs an armchair moron who does not know or make music, though, I'd go so far as to say that I strongly suspect it'd actually probably be more fruitful to start off with trying to make structurally good counterpoint before trying to make harmonically good counterpoint, because if one is adept at the former they can always one day develop the latter but I suspect the reverse is not at all true. Harmony is like a puzzle that can be solved in a few ways but an actual good counterpoint has near-infinite degrees of freedom. I also suspect it's kind of useless for learning without not just notating but performing it and mastering the microtiming aspects because a tiny difference there has very disproportionate impact on the final result
>>130671837you made some good points however since part-writing (the art of going from one chord to another) is music at the micro scale and form/structure is music at the macro scale it is incumbent for music students to understand the former before moving on to the latter.a good analogy would be the tale of the wolf and the three pigs.
>>130671809no i'm entirely self taught besides questions on the internet like this.i'm trying to get good at mainly jazz guitar and learn composition so i'm reading Counterpoint in Composition. i have read the three part first species chapter, but i want to do some more 2 part exercises before trying.
>>130671897You seem like a better person than many of the students I have had to interact with so listen carefully. I highly recommend that you have the following before applying to a conservatory:- a certificate or diploma in music from a community college (or whatever they're called in your country)- instrument grades. (you don't have to be a virtuoso. an intermediate grade is sufficient.)- a large and varied (around twenty pieces) portfolio of compositions at a refined professional standard. Do not forget to include programme notes.- a persuasive essay explaining why you should be admitted in favor of anyone else.

I can't because I've never been interested enough in classical music. I focus on writing stuff that makes me feel good, and currently, that means funk fusion.
>>130672530>currently, that means funk fusion.please post a vocaroo.
