Life-affirming music exists to cope with a brutal reality. Even mournful songs are about sincere emotion and love. Whereas more economically comfortable and developed cultures still have to contend with alienation and a lack of the existential fulfilment that their society was supposed to provide, making life begin to appear meaningless, and allowing plenty of time to dwell on resentment, fury or nihilistic apathy.It's not 100% along racial lines though, e.g. you can find plenty of old Memphis rap tapes that (although tongue-in-cheek and with playful 'horror' beats) are as thematically depressive and demonic as the average suicidal black metal album.
