Is My Chemical Romance actually emo ????serious question
>>130675421People who gatekeep will say no but they were the biggest band at that time and it's hard to argue against them being lumped in with the genre
>>130675509The whole "genre" of 2000's mall emo is based around a fashion statement it has nothing to do with the music.
>>130675421The first 2 albums ? definitely, TBP is a "rock opera" : glam, dark cabaret, pop punk and alt-rock, with emo-pop influence, DD is just pop-punk/rock. The more albums they released, the less emo they got.
>>130675617Just your opinion and you're entitled to it. Doesn't make any of those bands less great or influential just because they're not your cup of tea
>>130675509Woah most people are retarded, who would have thought.
>>130675689where did I say it wasn't my cup of tea?
>>130675713Sorry you feel that way, friend.
>>130675790You weren't speaking very highly of it so it's only natural to assume you don't care for it and that's fine. People don't have to enjoy the same things.
>>130675421MCR is in the top 5 greatest emo bands ever, how wouldn't they be emo ?
>>130675421My Chemical Romance is literally the posterchild of emo. The only people who say otherwise are genre purists and everyone knows they are out of touch with reality.
>>130675421The first album certainly isThe rest are tooYes even Danger Days
>>130675421According to the Sheriff of Emo Town himself is actually isn't. Funny that.https://youtu.be/ipHXiRcYnUQ
they're proto-emo
>>130676841>cucked by auto correct againit's gone rogue
MCR is the most popular emo band of all time
>>130675421The first two are, which means Three Cheers is, and that's the most important designation to make.
mcr is skate punk
They're rock. That's it, they're rock. They're a rock band that happened to adopt emo aesthetics. Not saying that's a bad thing, it's just what they are
>>130677997>tostitos scoopsbased
MCR isn't emo. it's theatrical pop rock.
MCR is screamo
>>130675421not in the Rites of Spring or Indian Summer way but I genuinely don't know enough about emo to say
MCR is march music
>>130675421emo is just one of those words that got applied to a bunch of different shit as music evolved. Once the term was in people's minds, even people who didn't know any of the "real" emo bands, they started calling anything that felt emotional "emo". MCR came along and were a mainstream success, uninformed normies started calling them emo, and it stuck for the next 20 years. You can cry all day and say that Skrillex and brostep isn't real dubstep but at the end of the day it's still called dubstep, and the genre name just doesn't serve as a dividing line between the two. Similar thing happened with emo, this is part of why people start dividing shit up into "waves". At the end of the day genre names are just made up anyway so there's no real objective rule as to how we refer to music. People call MCR emo, and even if you like REAL emo, you know what the fuck they mean.
MCR was basically a Thursday protégé on their first album. They have a direct connection to second wave emo.
MCR is goth
>>130675421between Punk Rock, Emo and Goth
>>130678803No they fucking aren't
>>130675421They're like a pop version of horror punk, like the Misfits but relatable to teenage girls and no references to rape.
>>130675421>they're mall emo>no, they're rock opera with emo influences>no, they are actually emo>the posterchild of emo>according to the gerar way they aren't real emo>proto-emo>skate punk>rock with emo aesthetics>theatrical pop-rock>screamo>march music>goth>between punk-rock, emo and goth>pop horror-punknobody can't agree what they are, not even themselveswhat the fuck is this shitwe need an actual definition from actual experts on what emo is and what isn't>>130678226this is the most educated answer here so far, but in order to be correct we need more statements like this one and actual knowledgeable people to agree with this
>>130680075>t. manson
their first album is definitely emo, sweet revenge is somewhat emo and the rest of their discography is punk pop
>>130680682Well they've made a lot of different music so the genre depends on the song itself. That's honestly what I like about them. Paramore is another good example of a 2000's era band that was labeled emo but made a bunch of cool stuff in different genres.
Theyre an emo band cause theyre from an emo scene, no question about it. Literallt anyone would know if they lived around a scene. No matter what the exact thing they played, if you acted a certain way and worked with each other everything was emo
>from an emo sceneemo and scene are different
>>130675421"Real Emo" only consists of the dc Emotional Hardcore scene and the late 90's Screamo scene. What is known by "Midwest Emo" is nothing but Alternative Rock with questionable real emo influence. When people try to argue that bands like My Chemical Romance are not real emo, while saying that Sunny Day Real Estate is, I can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake emo as My Chemical Romance (plus the pretentiousness). Real emo sounds ENERGETIC, POWERFUL and somewhat HATEFUL. Fake emo is weak, self pity and a failed attempt to direct energy and emotion into music. Some examples of REAL EMO are Pg 99, Rites of Spring, Cap n Jazz (the only real emo band from the midwest scene) and Loma Prieta. Some examples of FAKE EMO are American Football, My Chemical Romance and Mineral EMO BELONGS TO HARDCORE NOT TO INDIE, POP PUNK, ALT ROCK OR ANY OTHER MAINSTREAM GENRE
>>130683305No one is reading all that shit and no one cares
I love Hazbin Hotel S2, it's a very emo show.
>>130675421Yes, emo is the most inclusive genre in music.
>>130684855>he doesn't know
>>130683305>
>>130687361I'm aware of what it is. Doesn't change the fact that no one is gonna read it and no one cares
>>130685896Evanescence is goth
>>130687624They're a mishmash of a lot of things. Alternative at heart, but they draw from an array of influences. Hell, Amy's gone on to say that Portishead and Bjork were major influences on The Open Door. But yeah, their image was definitely leaning into gothic territory.
>left 27>right 42
if something is emotional, its emo
>>130687624>t. poser
>>130676841He's right though
>>130688334Isn't that an old pic? I know he got pretty heavy when they were on a break but I thought he lost the weight
>>130683305>Real emo sounds ENERGETIC, POWERFUL and somewhat HATEFUL. https://youtu.be/nDcD62i0MpI?si=ypRX2doVXSlW4fhJ
>>130688729yeah he lost it all
>>130689112He must dye his hair like he did in the past for extra -10 years off his real age
>>130678803What the fuck is this article>Artist A: "Artist B is a poser!">provide a bunch of facts that prove Artist A's point>"Artist A is dead! Long live artist B!"
>>130682623I always felt bullets lived in three cheers shadow I know it's the first album but still
>>130675509>they were the biggest band at that timeNo they weren't
>>130675421They are a pop punk band
all crabcore/mall goth retards calling themselves "emo" that have appeared after 2004 and everyone ever listening to them should kill themselves. can't believe it still has to be said 20 years later
>>130683305This guy knows.
>>130675689but those bands aren't good or influential, their cringey fashion aesthetics was just an extra lair of suckage on top
>>130695840>while saying that Sunny Day Real Estate isyeah, this and The Promise Ring and others in that vein, while being contemporary to real emo were always fucking unbearable indie rock faggots that barely had anything to do with the punk scene, i would guess. they were giving the genre a bad name from the start.real emo:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_f2dc-x9UUo
If you’re going to listen to emo at least listen to American Football or Brand New, MCR is such fucking faggot garbage even when I was 12/13 I thought it was cringeworthy.
>>130680075they kinda are
>>130675421Technically? No. MCR is not Emotive hardcore.but yah know buzzwords evolve and mutate so here we are. I would say "emo" as a word has mutated from its original meaning "Emotive Hardcore" into the word "emo" which is just Hot Topic music slop to sell a certain aesthetic for big corporations.
>>130696395but hotopic sells capeshit now so does that make the mcu emo now too?
>>130675421Let's think this through2020s pop punk and alt rock songs don't feel the same as 2000's pop punk and alt rock, because the 2000s had emo in themThat emotional impact of the 2000s is what made them emo, and typically emo consisted of a lot of melodic tension and releaseIf you could filter out that vibe then that's what makes a song emo, and bands can definitely have songs that are not emo mixed in with songs with emo and the album is often labeled as emoSo rather than asking whether the band is emo or not, you should be asking which songs they made that are emoPeople also often confuse emo with hardcore and screamo, but just know that even midwest emo is still emo
>>130693856Yes, they were. They were even over with normies. No other band at that time had crossover appeal except Fall Out Boy >>130695894Just your opinion
>>130696041SDRE mogs your favorite band
>>130697799Nah they get bottled all the time and you'd get rocks chucked at you if you wore the shirts as a dude.
>>130697816Sorry you feel that way, friend
