What is the state of radio in Current Year? Do only normalfags, art grant rent-seekers and old people do anything with it anymore? Going around the world with Radio Garden was pretty entertaining for half the day but I only found a handful of interesting projects and stories in a sea of ZOGpop signal repeaters and zombie operations.

Oldies channels can be good. 60s/70s stuff. classic songs

I found a kino local oldies soul / r&b channel on here just now. Thanks. Yeah but to answer your question radio is pretty fucking dead. Far more of a niche than even 10 years ago. Streaming is king

I listen to my college radio. It's a good station (they play way too much indie though), just pissed over them rejecting me twice because my "taste doesn't quite match what they play." Worst part is that I know a couple DJs and literally none of them know why I was rejected.

It's not really my thing, but I found out about KYOI from finding a fan revival project station for it, which is kind of neat. Small but dedicated international audience of old guys that still remember an obscure station built to broadcast rock to Japan around the 80s.

terrestrial radio has been in a zombie state for the past 20 years. there's like 3 companies that own 90% of the stations out there and they're all bleeding money year over year. your only hope is local listener-supported stations (of which i am lucky to have one that has weekly shows that play everything from gospel to black metal)

if your lucky to have a local college/community radio station that's it (community stations tend to have alot of old people with nothing better to do though). my local npr station has a few decent local shows too.

totally retarded. college radio should be totally freeform or its basically a student "run" alt rock station.

sometimes i kinda want to dj again but im so embarrassed of my psych show from hs that i dont want to go back lol. someone from school started playing the exact same stuff as me a few months after i quit tho so someone probably liked it i guess

I did college radio in the 2000s and it was a great time. I also loved listening to it late at night when crazy shit was happening on air, driving around listening to cool stuff being played, and so on. These days, college radio LARPs as mainstream radio, requiring a bunch of gay shit and imposing a million restrictions on those who would hope to do it - and in the end it all gets streamed or uploaded to a website anyway. Complete waste of time and the death of something really good (doesn't matter what music they play on whatever show - the amateurishness is what made it worthwhile). All other forms of radio are like cities: they all look and sound the same now, so a waste of time.

WFMU is good, especially the rock and soul station

For me it's 92.9 KISM out of Bellingham, WA.

There is a station in Japan that plays Cassiopea nonstop and thats based. But yeah most stations play goyslop even in Nashville. Mainstream music is no longer cool.

Radio is still the backbone of Drum and Base in the UK.
