90s indie that isn't completely retarded & embarrassing unlike ween, pavement, dinosaur jr etc? i havent heard alot of rock post prog and i want to expand my taste. ive heard some stuff i want to hear more of but 95 percent of the albums ive sampled have this snarky slacker shtick thats unbearable. doesn't have to be super obscure, i haven't heard a ton of it.
Quickspace - s/t
>>130696234>unlike ween, pavement, dinosaur jr etc?all good bands but idk, have you tried Modest Mouse? Long Drive, LCW, Moon, and all their EPs and shit through that time period are all great
>>130696290modest mouse is THE slacker band. listen to smashing pumpkins OP
>>130696234Polvo
>>130696267pretty good>>130696307i remember liking 1979 from hearing it off the radio a long time ago but never gave them a real chance>>130696604not quite. some parts kinda remind me of trout mask replica or mad river (which i like) but not big on the punk influence
>>130696290i almost like long drive
>>130696234Ween is way more better than any band in existence. Go listen cuckcore, faggot
>>130696234Guided by Voices - Bee ThousandGuided by Voices - Alien Lanes
why are illiterate people in this thread recommending slacker rock bands?
>>130697270no
>>130697401Arguably the greatest indie rock records ever made btw. Sorry to hear about your taste
>>130697382Because slacker records are peak and OP posted a sad boi slacker classic
TOADIES
You dont deserve this rec but try bandwagonesque by teenage fanclub
>>130697456you have to be joking >>130697460ive listened to 60s rock so ive already heard all this done better
>>130697510You havent heard shit and youre asking for recs like a scrub because you dont know shit. Youre a close minded arrogant prick with shit taste.
>>130696234Try suede
>>130696234>ive heard some stuff i want to hear more ofNo you fucking didn't, otherwise you wouldn't just post the most normcore album of the genre
>>130697639bc theyre the only band ive liked as a totality. i can't even remember what but ive heard stuff i liked some only aspects of. im probably asking for the wrong thing by saying indie rock then
>>130697667>i can't even remember whatFigure it out, and then maybe someone can discern what it is you like.
>>130697226nvm i listened to the wrong songs some of quebec pretty good>>130697695trying to
>>130697226Weird Al mogs Ween. Shut the fuck up.
>>130696234Fountains of Wayne, Afghan Whigs, Buffalo Tom, Concrete Blonde, Kitchens of Distinction.
>>130696290Ween exists so far above the other two bands here I don’t know why they’re grouped together
Duster is low energy pussy shit. Pavement, Modest Mouse, Built to Spill, Wrens, Guided by Voices, Mercury Rev, Lync those are all good indie bands that know how to be emotional, edgy, and creative all at once.
little too hardcore to be "indie" but Brainiac fucking rules and is definitely obscure enough to be indie
>>130698531pretty sure im looking for pussy shit
basically op is a faggot
>>130696234Codeine obviously
>>130698539>300x168
>>130698173same, I guess they all feel "slacker" to OP even though I don't really know what's qualifying that for him
>>130697226>>130698173>dude WEEN LMAO hahahaha WEEEEEN DUDEOP specified "90s indie that isn't completely retarded & embarrassing"
>>130696234Dinosaur Jr.'s great, you fucking faggot.
>>130696234>Dinosaur JrThey don't have a "slacker shtick", J Mascis is just autistic
>>130696234all of them are still gay sounding, but you started it off with duster, so.
>>130696234I love Ween and Duster so get fucked dumbass. Listen to Bedhead.
>>130700296i already said i liked most of quebec & one of the other later albums. i just skimmed the early stuff like a moron. "slacker" as im using it to exclude what i dislike sounds like they're consciously trying very hard to be edgy, obnoxious, weird and gross like a bunch of hs freshman stoners. with duster i dont hear that at all.i think the stuff im looking for is generally closer to psychedelic and progressive rock influence and less power pop, grunge, punk & metal. i hate to totally exclude broad categories in case im excluding something i would actually like but that generally seems to be the trend.i do like mbv except for their drummer

>>130696234>>130706717It's probably better to think of Duster as very slow, sparse post-rock (same for most "slowcore") rather than as 90s "indie rock." A band like Slint (at least on Spiderland) feels far more alike to Duster to me than any of the bands you listed in the OP. I'll list the 90s rock stuff I haven't seen posted itt yet.>more like "indie rock" (Pinback is pretty different from the first two though, honestly probably most likely to appeal to you going off Duster)>The Raymond Brake - Piles of Dirty Wintershttps://youtu.be/EZtRmics7Ng>Vitreous Humor - Posthumoushttps://vitreoushumor.bandcamp.com/album/posthumous>Pinback - self-titledhttps://pinback.bandcamp.com/album/pinback>math-y or post-rock-y>The Wicked Farleys - Ken Theoryhttps://youtu.be/EKtQT6qtETU>Dianogah - Battle Championshttps://dianogah.bandcamp.com/album/battle-champions>Macha - See It Another Wayhttps://youtu.be/O9T5TKNA0bE>Moonshake - Eva Lunahttps://youtu.be/NBbOnsr4aWk>varies, the potential "retarded" category>super concise pop>Pee - Now! More Charm & More Tenderhttps://peemusic.bandcamp.com/album/now-more-charm-and-more-tender>shoegaze>Swirlies - Blonder Tongue Audio Batonhttps://swirlies.bandcamp.com/album/blonder-tongue-audio-baton>weird rock>Thinking Fellers Union Local 282 - Tanglehttps://bulbous-monocle.bandcamp.com/album/thinking-fellers-union-local-282-tangleTFUL282 is probably the most likely of these to put you off in terms of tone, but I think they have some incredible songs. Similarly for Pee and Swirlies. Now! More Charm & More Tender is great, and is something I'd say has more to do with childhood than simply being jeuvenile.
>>130708030I can second Thinking Fellers. OP might not love everything by them, but they oughta scratch the itch for someone into Ween, Pavement, and etc. They don't really have one sound or style either, each album has a distinct and different feel to it.
>>130708030Moonshake is pretty good but it's so far removed from Duster
>>130706717>liking Ween lite
>>130708090>someone into Ween, Pavement, and etclol no OP hated them>>130708134OP didn't just ask for albums like Stratosphere. Look here >>130706717
>>130696234Disco Inferno.
>>130708030just kinda sampling i liked everything here. thanks. will be giving them full listensisnt that style of rhythm on some of the moonshake stuff called baggy or something? i fw it. theres that one album by flippers guitar i remember liking that kinda sounds like that
>>130709090I'd never heard of baggy before, so I dunno. I'll check out Flipper's Guitar though. Also, is there a reason you're only looking for 90s stuff?I remembered Thinking Fellers has an EP that'd be a better introduction to them, since it doesn't have the sort of skits they normally do. Probably the release of their's I return to the most these days.>TFUL282 - Admonishing the Bishopshttps://youtu.be/9_SPdxLWOXI
there is no other band that matches the same warm fuzz as duster https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUAk3bjATmAprove me wrong
>>130697510>Teenage Fanclub>“ive listened to 60s rock”Are you fucking dense? At least say “I heard Big Star the first time” or something, you TikTok brained zoomer faggot.
>>130696234>>130708030Pinback was the first thing I thought of too.
>>130696234Have you figured out and honed what you're interested in being shown so far?I don't want to attempt to contribute if it'll be a waste.
>>130711391i was just interested in that general era. can be earlier or later if its in a similar vein. >>130712897do you seriously think big star invented that sound? lol. did the beatles invent heavy metal too buddy?
