Geek culture is more dedicated, earnest, and humble then music culture and I'm sick of pretending it's not. Want proof? Look no further than this shitty "cult" band.
You see, there are people out there that actually learn to speak Elvish and Klingon and things like that, but no one, and I mean no one, not a SINGLE SOUL in the history of mankind has ever bothered to learn "Kobaian". Even in the rare chance they did, it's because they were already the type of geek to learn those other fantasy languages.
They'll learn those languages and every other nuanced thing about their topic of interest purely out of love for the hobby, but still wholly recognize themselves as a geek in the perception of society's eyes.
They don't go getting a big head and make up fake classifications for themselves to feel special, and even if they do they at least have a good reason to back it up which is the sheer knowledge of their specific interest.
Because no matter how much of a "cultist" you think you are, no matter how "invested" in shit you think you are, nothing you do shows that level of dedication, in fact you're a casual, and for that matter there are people who are really nerdy about music and knowledgeable but not the likes of the people found here. Oh, you made a chart using an online generator and think you're invested in something? Fuck off. And to think, after aaaaaaall these years and it's still the best thing you have in your arsenal. That's weak.
Normalfags are always the type of people that end up outdoing you in your geek hobbies and superseding you. I hope one day Magma gets adapted to a movie or Netflix series and you see the poster somewhere and realize you actually have not a leg to stand on anymore. Then maybe you can hang from a noose and finally become an hero. It's happened to a lot of things before, don't think it can't.

Geek culture simply has a higher level of engagement. With geek culture you can collect a vast array of things, generate or consume fan made media, go to conventions or meet-ups, craft and wear cosplay, contribute to or visit fansites and forums, create or read and watch reviews, and yes even make music based on geek topics. Even make adult content about it lol. More importantly then anything they have the ability to parody themselves and make light on the subject, in music culture the reverence of artists signals a deep disconnect between the listener. Their inability to poke fun at themselves suggests a distinct lack of acquaintance with the subject matter. That isn't a sign of a health community. Geeks also regularly contribute to their industry and basically keep it afloat which is why it's a healthier industry, meanwhile in music the consensus in modern times is "we pirate and don't give a shit" then they wonder why their industry is suffering.
With music culture, you can collect and listen to records, go to record stores and shows...and that's about it. When the show is over everyone just leaves, music culture is transitory and fleeting. People rarely bother learning an instrument, music zines and fansites are dead, and modern music reviews are just amatuer writers who can't play music describing the album track by track. The worst parts of geek culture can be found in music too, like smelly unwashed people, cliqueiness, and selling merch with booth babes(even underground and progressive bands do this).
So in conclusion, you can call me a geek or a nerd or a dork and you might think it's an insult but really, it's the greatest compliment you could possibly give!

Beatles fans have their own online forums, they hold tribute acts where they dress up as them and play songs they spend years obsessively dissecting, they draw porn of them, I've even seen Beatles fan-songs (and entire fan-albums), and the Beatles are the furthest thing from a "cult" band.

Yeah cause music is about the music not the lyrics, no one cares about the lyrics after a point. Christian Vander isn't a linguist his made up language obviously isn't that interesting, and Magma is a gimmicky band, who gives a shit. Plenty of people nerd out about all kinds of shit in music whether it's music theory, band member drama, dressing up like artists, recreating every last element in the fucking single chain that was used in any given recording to try and replicate the sound, etc etc. Why are you typing out a seething massive wall of text over one overrated crap band?

LOTR is much older and has 10000x more mainstream media backing behind it.

it's the internet, everyone wants to be the alpha nerd. i liked it better when only some people could get the sauce for stuff. now anyone can be an expert so it's not as impressive anyway
>>

Become the alpha nerd of your own franchise. Create something that only you have the sauce on
>>
>>130702425
i did do that but it wasn't very popular. you'd think it's obscurity makes it even nerdier, but that's not really how it works because stuff still needs to be popular with the nerds

>guys im smart and interesting
