A lot of the merit that the best guitar solos in metal have is just how fast it is, which is inherently uncreative and a big one-trick pony. To metal fans uncommon time signatures are like the most advanced/interesting thing you can do, and they never get sick of the harmonic minor scale. Again I like some metal but those are just some crits.I don't even have to say the reasons that mainstream pop can suck ass because you already know, but pop can have it's moments of true brilliance just like metal IMO. Pop is capable of accomplishing more creatively but it rarely does
