how can i actually come up with riffs and drum beats for metal songs? youtube isnt very helpful
>>
>>130700308
I have no earthly idea. Why are you asking me, of all people?
>>
>>130700350
surely you have some advice
>>
>>130700308
I kinda struggle with drums too. What I have is a 20€ USB keyboard that I map the MIDI inputs onto, using whatever drum samples I like that I can find on the Internet. I'm not at that stage yet, actually I'm not sure on how to organise my workflow to include drums.

But if you can't come up with riffs might as well just give up. NGMI

>>130700413

>the chances of me being a well known artist is very low so idk if its even worth it
you never know anon... although sometimes it feels like the meta now is to just put a cute girl on it
>>
>>130700453
maybe
theres hundreds of new songs made everyday man
being a new artist these days will only be worth it if youre super good and popular or just do it for fun

Your best bet is to learn other metal songs because then you will have an insider view into the secret sauce. Like a classic metalcore riff (e00700905040a5e0a8 literally just whatever basically) is really basic and once you learn it, you unlock an entire template of riffs that you can just plug different notes into. another approach is to think of rhythm and just plug a patterned set of notes into it.

with drums, lean basic beats and just iterate on them. once you learn the mold for them it kind of falls into place, although keep in mind most people aren't good at everything so sometimes it's better to just pick drums or guitar to focus on and make the other one more basic than try to be god tier at everything.

get guitar pro and download tabs for tips and shit. don't steal, but just learn what sounds like what generally

ok
desu i feel that i just dont "have that dawg in me" to come up with nice sounding stuff
>>
>>130700486
it just takes practice mate. although getting stuff really polished and presentable is a world apart from just writing the chunes
>>
>>130700497
yeah its challenging to get the right tones and stuff and not make everything so loud
>>
>>130700503
idk mate if you focus too much on making stuff people will like then your music will not really be yours. i know it's kind of sappy but you should work on making your unique voice as good as it can be instead of just making something because you want people to like it, which kind of goes against the advice to find the mold of different genres, but idk

for me it's writing a song longer than 1.5-2 minutes that i struggle with, but when i look at other songs it seems so obvious. funny how that works

For drums loop some drum cover of a metal song on youtube then just jam over it on guitar till you get something good. Or Copy riffs from songs you like, don't worry if it's derivative the next one will be better it's for practice and building skills.

>>130700516
alright
>>
>>130700446
NGMI, not even for fun. If being famous is what you wanted, first of all it's stupid and gay as fuck, but you'll never even make it in the business of sound. Learn how to use a DAW and record properly.
All apps, AI services, pseudo-DAWs, are worthless and basically scams. You should 100% do it on your own, your own way, but with the proper techniques.
It's not me gatekeeping it's genuinely the case.
>>
>>130700586
imo daws are just better because i can see the notes and stuff clearly
>>
>>130700625
(in my opinion)
>>
>>130700308
Kiss a woman.
>>
>>130700625
the hell is a DAW? like ableton?
>>
>>130700685
yes
>>
>>130700642
By that logic Guitar Pro should be your favorite thing ever
>>
>>130700693
no i like bandlab
>>
>>130700486
You won't get nice sounding stuff on first attempt. I often improvise random chords and melodies until something I play catches my attention. After that I work on it. I add more stuff, change some notes, remove some, repeat some, change tempo and rhythm. I figure out what makes sense by trial and error. It's probably how most songs were written.

Ps: If you learn the note intervals on guitar it can be helpful.
>>
>>130700308
stop watching youtube and start playing guitar. learn how to play songs you like from tabs. if you aren't good enough to play their songs, you're probably not good enough to write your songs yet. examine if there's common things across their songs. using that knowledge try to make your own songs using patterns you like. don't steal their stuff, make it your own. most of your guitar heroes had influencers in a similar way. take a few lessons to learn basic theory if you want, but there's a lot of famous guitarists that don't know any theory whatsoever. it's really not that hard. you just have to start playing. the more, the better. don't overthink it, just noodle. eventually you will have riffs. eventually you will have songs.

>>130700476
Are you fucking retarded? Why do you need to be told how to write metal songs from fucking youtube influncers?
Sell your guitar and buy a gun so you can kill yourself, you useless faggot.
>>
>>130700308
it has to come from your heart, dawg. nobody can tell you how to do it. either it's in you or it aint.
>>
>>130702596
>>130702948
idk i'll just mess around with existing riffs and try to make something good
>>
>>130703021
didn't ask
>>
>>130700308
>metal songs
If you're not even sure which subgenre you're targeting, you need to listen to more metal
>>
>>130700308
idk i just sit there with my guitar and some riffs will pop up in my head, it's better if i'm angry that day
