What does /mu/ think about Steely Dan? Aja is one of my favorite albums ever. Silky smooth discography in my opinion.
>>130703286Two raging autists who made some incredible music
>>130703286Sterile elevator music
Talented musicians but the music doesn't move me for the most part. A few undeniable songs though
>>130703286I don't know how they managed to do it but Gaucho sounds very late 80s early 90s to me even though it was a 1980 album. I think they were way ahead of their time in terms of sound.
>>130703314Only a fool would say that
>>130703314this shit makes me seethe everytime, great slander
Aja is good. I don't really remember anything else of theirs, but "I don't wanna do your dirty work, no more" ran through my head a lot when I was a 3 year old with no younger brothers yet.
>>130703361for me it's a shame they got fixated on drum machines, especially after the incredible drumming on Aja. some tracks sound a little flat as a result.
>>130703314Will one single Albini song survive Gen X?
>>130703286Michael McDonald's vocals on Peg man
>>130703314Surely Steve "puny labia" Albini likes Everyone's Gone to the Movies?
Did someone invite tripfags to this thread? They give me the ick.

>>130703286Arguably the best band of the 70s. Makes punkfags seethe
>>130703314>the not bald one somebody give albini a podcast he is just a gem MACHINE.
>>130705407t. Roast beef salesmanThere's really no other reason for sticking up for that nonce.
>>130703314He's right about Bozz Skaggs though. I'd like Steely Dan more if the vocals weren't so terrible and could lose the cynical holier than thou lyrics.
I don't find Steely Dan pretentious at all, for all their obsession with musical proficiency they were always in the business of making catchy hooky tunes.
>>130704996The drums are so bright on Gaucho, you need cocaine ears to get through the whole thing.
They totally blew me away when I saw them play at a venue I worked at ~10 years ago. I was expecting an easy evening of soft sounds but instead it was extremely tight long form prog jams with crazy high musicianship. Was easily in the top 5 performances I saw there over the years.

>>130705497>I'd like Steely Dan more if the vocals weren't so terrible and could lose the cynical holier than thou lyrics.that's partially what makes them so great and unique though. also i don't find their lyrics condescending whatsoever but legitimately sincere and grounded in reality, they've just got a great sense of humor
They're so damn good. I'm listening to them more and more as I get older
>>130703286patrician music
I love Steely Dan. My Mom got me into them. The Royal Scam. Fuckin' love that album..
