Ebony is a fretboard material. For body wood you would have to be retarded because an all ebony telecaster would weigh like 18lbs. An all ebony les paul would be like 22lbs. That's why it's only used for fingerboards.

i have a habit of composing stuff with just my vocal and my guitar so when i forgot what the chords are in it i just simply upload it to chordify, i usually come up with chords and the words are just gibberish, just an ad-lib so i'm surprised chordify can also transcribe the gibberish.
>>
>>130709210

Pick a tune. Any tune. Look a the first chord in the chord progression. Play a 16th note arpeggio up the neck. When the chord changes, find a note from the new chord that is close to the last note you played and keep going. When you run out of neck, turn around and do descending arpeggios down the neck.

This has been my workout for the last couple weeks and it's exploding my fretboard knowledge and soloing freedom.

>>
>>130712838
you don't need to sit down and formally practice singing like you do with guitar. i wfh and practice singing to whatever bullshit i'm listening to on spotify and i sing in the car. that has been enough to make me a good singer. it just requires self-listening and pitch correction skills
>>
>>130712517
it's not about when you start, it's about when you take it seriously. in a year or two you can progress further than someone who has been phoning it in for 20 years
>/gg/
>>
>>130712857
This is true but what about scales and such?
>>
>>130712957
you don't need to be able to sing a scale on demand. you should be able to hear the tonic chord of a key and sing each note in the key, though. also should be able to freestyle in-key over a song
>>
>>130712972
having a guitar on hand makes this really easy. if you struggle with scales and singing in key, then sing along to your guitar scales and improv. the same neurons you use to know you played the right note on guitar will keep your voice on pitch
>>
>>130712982
i discovered this trick watching jazz soloists. a lot of them will double what they are playing on guitar with their voice. kind of a cutesy gimmick for a performance, but i started doing it while practicing and it turned out to be a cheat code for singing

If you're going to do that you should try out the strat in person and fall in love with that one particular guitar enough to sell your shit planks to be able to afford it. Don't sell everything and then order a guitar online because it's from the 60s

Personally i would rather own a Suhr guitar and not deal with vintage stuff. Vintage fags get locked into the obsession with old guitars thinking that's the holy grail to great playing and tone when it's really not. My favorite current guitar players play new shit.

Ive been practicing guitar for a year now and this is everything i know and can play decently well:
G
C
Cm
E
Em
B (but only on the 7th fret, i cant do the A barre chord shape on 2)
Bm
A
Am
D
Dm
F
Fm
E7
A7
D7
B7
And a few other random chords that i dont know the names of that are in songs ive tried to learn. And i can play all 5 minor pentatonic shapes. My practice basically is just playing all the chords and scales i know over and over. I feel like ive hit a wall and im not getting any better. Any advice on what i should try to learn?

Well Guild is a Yamaha brand so the pickups might even be the same. The Guild sounds warmer, the Yamaha brighter. The Yamaha also has coil split in case I want to go twang. The necks are quite different.

Hardest pass of ever take. For two grand you’re into American Vintage/American Original prices or a Japanese one with money to spare.

I never listened to this band until recently, and I'm hooked. It's funny because I own Buckethead albums and like other players influenced by Paul Gilbert but never gave Racer X a listen because of how shit Mr Big was.

Is there an easy way to learn inversions?
I know what they are but I'm talking about patterns like you'd have for barre chords or shapes

take B minor shape, x24432
you don't play the 5th string, that's 2nd inversion because your deepest note is F# which is the 5th of the B note
you don't play the 5th and 4th string, that's 1st inversion because you deepest note is the D which is the minor 3rd of the B note

there are also 3rd and 4th inversion but those are for extended chords

It’s not thing Japan it’s Mexico has inferior electronics and pickups and hardware and Japan has similar electronics but better pickups and hardware for the same price or in this case less

I think Dean just filed for bankruptcy again. Real good move dropping the Dimebag signature line right before Pantera reformed and everything Dimebag related started selling like fire. They even fired their son Evan Rubinson from running Dean because he was stealing money LMAO. Absolute shit show of a company.

Dean has been a total joke of a company ever since Dean Zelinsky sold his company. Zelinsky still makes his own guitars with Zelinsky Guitars and every one of them I’ve played has been great.

Fender in the 70s was just Gibson but better with the Tele Deluxe and the Starcaster and the Coronado.

Does a bass player determine how inversions work in a song?
I.E. if rhythm guitar is playing a C/E chord but the bass is playing E - is the current chord an E?
>>
>>130716927
it's just gonna be C/E as always
bass player can play anything even outside inversion like C/F, C/A, or even C/B as long as it's agreed beforehand
>>
>>130716916
Besides the Tele Deluxe, CBS did at least two things right: the formation of Fender Japan and selling the company to the employees. Both groups who actually cared about making great instruments.

>Japan has similar electronics but better pickups and hardware
that's not true at all. In the current year, a player Strat or Tele has nicer wood, hardware, pickups and electronics than anything fender japan makes

Squeal about it or not, in the end you have to admit Gibson has the best headstock.

SSS or HSS for a Strat?
>>
>>130717315
SSS unless you are into punk. Anything heavier and you should look at another guitar.
>>
>>130717315
SSS but it needs to have a good bridge single coil
>>
>>130717315
SSS but only use the neck pickup
>>
H with a single slanted S is the best pickup config
