How do we feel about The Sound?

They had some wonderful songs, and a lot of mediocre ones. I always hear people say they're underrated, which I agree with, and that they're one of the best post-punk bands ever, which I disagree with. I think if you dug through everything they ever did, you could put together a really good greatest hits, but I don't think they're on the level of Joy Division, Clock DVA, The Chameleons, etc.

Growing up I was into post-punk and indie, and now I'm into extreme metal, and desu while I definitely think post-punk/goth/darkwave etc. are infinitely better than the symphonic side of goth metal, which is horribly cheesy, desu I'd take gothic death-doom over gothic rock. Bands like My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost, etc. are better than any gothic rock band except maybe Fields of the Nephilim IMO.

I have been liking some of the modern deathrock bands a lot, notably Grave Pleasures and Final Gasp.

I will say, I notice that pretty much all the music I like is rooted in post-punk, whether indie or metal. My favorite indie bands - the Britpop band Suede, the art punk band Tropical Fuck Storm, the gothic country of Murder By Death, etc., and my favorite metal bands - the blackened doom of Mizmor, the DSBM of Forgotten Tomb, etc., are all rooted in post-punk. Because of that, I think I'm goth-adjacent.

I don't know if anyone has ever mentioned this here, but, in Portugal, we have this graphic novel about some local Goth musicians from the 90s and it is kinda cool.

The strength of the book is not on the story itself, but how they were just a bunch of kids interested in weed and alchool and getting laid and being weird. But their songs should be good

They're so fucking cool, Especially when I'm heading to my morning shift, The raw creepy sounds of the first album work well with the empty streets

Obviously i'm also into Metal but it offers nothing substantial, The only thing that actually I enjoy in Metal is Gothic metal and what I also listen to is goth and post punk.

Pleasure symbols.

They're just so fucking good, I love them so much to the point I even went and searched for their other projects, Also I found myself listening a lot to industrial music lately, Twin Tribes's 2021 album and NiN

But I recommend Pleasure Symbols so badly to anyone here.

Goth is a fucking mess right now and has been for a good six years. True goth music is still getting made, mostly in Europe. Goth has never had a major presence in the U.S.A or at least not musically. The Cure are played on 80's radio stations still and most hipsters probably have a Joy Division shirt but that’s it. Goth is often look at as only a fashion statement and not a mindset or type of music. Fetish clothes have always been a part of goth but not all goths wore that sort of stuff back in the 80's. Goth only has some tides to the B.D.S.M. scene but mostly due to the clothes made by Vivienne Westwood a few years prior to the big post punk/dark wave explosion in the early 80s. Goth is an appreciation of the more macabre and darker aspects of life. I think the philosophy of goth often goes over most people’s heads and to them goth just means that you like to dress in revealing clothes and be obnoxious in public. I think it’s sad that goth is reduced to Only Fans models shaking their plastic surgery asses to the music of Deftones or other non-goth music groups.

I think it’s funny how many people claim to be goth and somehow don’t know any real goth bands. The most common groups that the Tik Tok “goths” call goth are bands like Deftones, My Chemical Romance, System of a Down, Korn , Limp Bizkit, Bad Omens, Spirit Box, Evanescence, Black Veil Brides, Billie Eilish , Rico Nasty and Motionless in White. It’s funny that pop music, nu-metal and mall-emo garbage is being called goth. Real goth groups are bands like Pink Turns Blue, Christian Death, 13th Chime, Alien Sex Fiend, The Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus, and Voodoo Church. It’s very frustrating that these “ goth girls” are doing this because they’re making it hard for actual goth women who now are being harassed by idiots that think since all the Tik Tok goth chicks act like nymphos that must mean all goth chicks are like that. Goth was better when the general public was afraid of it. If you go to a goth night at a venue now it’s just sad. Everyone is on there phones filming dance Tik Tok and taking a billion selfies and the guys are just annoying and obviously only there because of the chicks. They don't even dress goth themselves. It’s all a joke now. You can’t even try to inform people on goth music and history without being called a gatekeeper. If you don’t listen to real goth music then you’re not goth. It’s like saying you’re a metal-head because of your battle-jacket but you only listen to country music it doesn’t make sense. Goth has never really existed in the U.S. and it never will. You can thank fast fashion, only fans models, Tik Tok, trendy pop stars, and mega corporations for the further bastardization of goth. It’s a shame.

Millennials failed to gatekeep and zoomers are fucking retarded. Big reason why everything sucks.

i hate how if you look at a "goth's" tiktoks theyll always have some nongoth music over them, like some scenecore garbage or maybe at best something like rock lobster. Like if your gonna call yourself a goth and film your outfit or whatever then maybe you could atleast choose a goth song? ffs

because the aesthetic is objectively based and normgroids want to appear dark and edgy without actually committing to it, so they want another person who embodies said qualities to live vicariously off
Similar logic to brands copying extreme metal logos

Check out Babylon Whores if you don't know them already, deathrock with some doomy vibes, Maniac from Mayhem does guest vocals on 2 tracks from their final album
You might also enjoy Woods of Fallen (their album from last year is mostly classic BM but ends with a post punk track)
Forgotten Woods also has a lot of goth influence and their side project Joyless is straight-up experimental post punk past the first album
