it's out. what do you think?
>>
>>130746089
Based on the singles it might be their best album in 15 years
>>
Feels like a return to the more prog rock sound of Black Holes and Revelations.
>>
>>130746595
i only feel it for the 1st track desu
overall it's better than the stuff they put out for the last 10 year, still prefer drones though
>>
I don't listen to Muse. Just came here to say this album cover is unappealing.
>>
best album since the resistance

be with you still sucks tho
>>
>>130746089
Their best since BHAR, maybe comparable to it, wish they'd have reduced the number of slow songs/"ballads", or at least better developed a few of them (and removed Be With You, not bad, just average)
Top 5 tracks :
1- Cryogen
2- Unravelling
3- Shimmering Scars
4- Nightshift Superstar
5- Hexagon

A strong 8
( 8^|)
(Maybe a song will grow on me with repeated listens, but that's it for now)
>>
>>130746089
Only just started listening to it. The Dark Forest is pretty sweet. Will have to go through the album several times before I can sum up my impressions.
>>
Matt Bellamy's flanderized voice
>>
Surprisingly good, maybe not incredible but I feel like it might grow on me a bit more
>>
Unironically return to form.
>>
Im surprised with Hush, totally slept on
>>
>>130746089
It stinks
>>
Space Debris was.......fine, but somehow it didn't really feel like a suitable "final track". Anyone here agrees?
>>130748489
Same, was actually one of the highlights of the album for me.
>>
>>130748489
Having Ellie Goulding sing over an 8 string djent guitar riff is a fucking hilarious choice and works so well
>>
>>130746089
Longtime Muse fan here, first time since Black Holes when I can say the whole album feels fresh from start to end without any pacing issues or weird filler songs. Muse has excellent tracks in every album they make but the overall formule was pretty inconsistent ever since Resistance. Not the case here. As another anon said : their best since Black Holes, lots and lots of creativity on top of excellent singles (Nightshift Superstar is one hell of a grower)
8.5/10
>>
It's odd how they have been getting consistently more embarrassing over the years and suddenly they drop their best album since BHAR
>>
I am a free thinker, and this is a good record.

>it might be their best album in 15 years
Which isn't saying much since their last good album came out 20 years ago

Resistance wasn't great but it still had its moments like Unnatural Selection and title track
>>
More like The SHIT Signal

I'm going to react to every track live on this thread.

>Nightshift Superstar
What the hell is this discount Daft Punk dogshit? ugh, fucking hate Daft Punk btw
>>
>>130749340
>Shimmering Scars
First minute i legit thought it was an ai track. Not too bad compared to the previous track which was dogwater. 6.5 to 6 nothing to write home about
>>
Loved Muse as a teen, was at Wembley for the HAARP and Resistance tour shows that kind of thing

Ehhhhhhh put the Ellie Goulding track on and this is still embarrassing. They've completely lost anything dynamic and are basically a parody of themselves. The Resistance was the start and they've just done it again about 6 times.
>>
>>130749340
>>130749369
Why did you skip the Dark Forest?
>>
>>130749377
idk for me it feels like a more refined less cringe worthy version of their previous albums, Nightshift Superstar is their best attempt at a pop song besides Undisclosed Desires
>>
>>130749369
>Cryogen
Little bits of old muse to please the oldheads i guess (pre BHAR / Resistance) but still with the same formulaic bullshit from their new music. Lyrics are doo doo. Meh
>>
>>130749388
By the time i wrote my first post second track was on so yeah.
>>
>>130749415
>Be With You
Slop. I'm guessing this is a single? generic asf radio friendly slop
>>
not the other anon, Dark Forest sounds like Knights of Cydonia but shitter
>>
>>130749453
Yeah that's easily the worst song on the album, it was the second single after Unraveling
>>
There are moments on this which really remind me of VOLA

>>
>hexagons
They're still doing these nu muse overly dramatic intros? One and a half minutes ffs. Other than that, so far this is the only track that i see myself giving it a second listen.
>>
>>130749521
>the sickness of you and i
No seriously, what in the fuck is this shit? What is Matt doing with those vocals? lmao. This is so fucking Bad, laughably bad. Laughed irl
>>
>>130749542
>unraveling
Paranormal YouTube channel ass intro. Uninspiring. Not even the metal chugs (straight from the Deftones book btw) can give this shit some edge
>>
>>130749591
>Hush
I'M BULLETPROOF NOTHING TO LOSE

Just end this torture that i submitted myself to already. Terrible stuff
>>
>>130749133
>Nightshift Superstar is one hell of a grower
Agreed, arguably their best single from this album. I've been listening to it more than the other tracks.
>>
I'm like the only anon in this thread who's okay with Be With You. Like that song is obviously nu-Muse to its core, but I'm kinda vibing with it in a good way.
>>
Cryogen > Hexagons > The Dark Forest > Unravelling > The Sickness in You & I > Space Debris > Nightshift Superstar > Shimmering Scars > Hush >>>> Be with You
>>
>>130749680
>Space Debris
A 6 minute song that goes absolutely nowhere. Just slow, boring. Wouldn't it make a little bit of sense to be overly dramatic THIS ONE TIME? I mean, it's literally the closer, go apeshit, close it with a banger but nope. Ultimately ithis track is the reflection of this whole project, a complete uneventful disappointment that you're just glad that is finally over. I became a muse fan when in was a kiddo with Origin and abandoned ship with the 2nd law, i was so utterly repulsed by that album that i ripped off my posters and dropped the band to never touch one of their albums in full until today. Never gonna make the mistake of giving this band a second chance again, it's joever.
>>
>>130749803
lmao you would absolutely hate Simulation Theory and WOTP
>>
>>130749803
What do people like you even want out of Muse now? You hate when they try new sound and you hate when they try to go back to their old sound
>>
>>130749803
It's probably Matt's most personal song yet with absolutely heart breaking lyrics. I think it complements the album as a whole really well. Begin on insane theatrics, end on a quiet sad note.
>>
>>130748532
Okay I've changed my mind after listening to it again, I think Space Debris is actually pretty fitting as an ending song.
>>
THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE
THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE
THE WILL OF THE
WILL OF THE

Ooops wrong album
>>
>>130746640
Go listen to The Dark Forest, at least. Anyone who doesn't like that song is a pussy.
>>
>>130749283
Excuse me, but resistance was peak from beginning to end. Better than BH&R, better than Showbiz, and dare I say better than OOS? It took what was good about Muse and dialed it up to 11 with strings, choirs, and theatrical grandeur. There is not a single track on that album that I don't like and neither shouldn't you. 2nd Law was just as good, it was fresh, bold, experimental, but had amazing tracks for a concept album. Sure, the messaging was a bit mixed, but it was not a bad album at all. Drones and WOTP was trash, I agree, but Simulation Theory's grow on me.
>>
>>130749803
LMAO filterered HARD. 2nd Law was MILES ahead of some of their early stuff, you're just a faggot who can't into music is all.
>>
>>130750171
>Better than BH&R, better than Showbiz, and dare I say better than OOS
This sum low effort ragebait. Get better dawg.
>>
>>130750199
Half of the tracks on 2nd law were them trying to jump on the brostep bandwagon
The 2 songs with Chris on vocals were completely forgettable
>>
>>130750308
They were about him dealing with alcoholism
>>
>>130750207
BH&R had supermassive blackhole, which is an annoying track. The absence of Glorious on the official release was a let down. Showbiz is fine, OOS is amazing, but I genuinely believe 2nd Law is just as good as the two.
>>130750308
>half the tracks
Let's see, Follow Me and Unsustainable, that's two tracks. Oh and Unsustainable was made made with a guitar, those "dubstep" noises are actually Matt playing.
>>
>>130749803
Fair review. Did you give Hexagon a second listen like u said u will? What about Dark Forest?
>>
>>130750520
>Did you give Hexagon a second listen like u said u will?
I did. Upon second listen i think it's the only legit good song. About dark forest it could've been good but it drags on and on for far too long to the point that it just kills the whole song. And Cryogen had potential if better choices were made but not being able to make good choices gave us the monstrosity known as nu muse and by the looks of it they're never gonna crawl out of that hole. One good song in a 10 song album, good Lord.

>>
lmao at people who compare Muse to Sleep token now
>>
The Dark Forest
- Someone crossed One Winged Angel (live orchestra version) from FF7 with their own song Uprising

Nightshift Superstar
- Good electro pop feel

Shimmering Scars
- Good drop at 1:40 or so
- Slow build up kind of kills it for me
- Overall great song

Cryogen
- Cool guitar track

Be With You
- 2:00 minute build up for a 3:35 song
- Good song though

Hexagon
- Crazy good guitar work
- Standout drumming towards the end of the track
- Feels like it belongs in Tron: Legacy with the Digital Audio Effects

The Sickness In You & I
- Mid 90's heavy rock throw back
- Cool crossfade into Unravelling

Unravelling
- More mid 90's heavy rock throw back

Hush
- Cool melody
- Ellie Goulding fits well into the piece
- Reminds me of Lights on that one Bring Me The Horizon song we all love
- Neat guitar intro

Space Debris
- Reminds me of Incubus' circa 2004 for some reason mixed with 2000 Coldplay
- Nice closer

solid 7/10 album

Muse The Snyder Cut

Uncs still got it, album is pretty good.
>>
>>130746089
I liked muse when I was 14 but their new stuff sucks.
>>
It's their first non-shit album since Black Holes but it's still not great

Honestly not a fan of low 8-string chugging, Matt could do better than parroting Djent.
>>
>>130749336
topkek
>>
The poppy mechanisms in Hush sound so familiar but I can't put my finger on what it's reminding me of.

Specifically that vocal bounce thing at 1:02, 2:22, 3:24, and the little blueballs anticlimax pullback shit at like 1:19, 2:32, before the riff drop. anyone know?
>>
We are so back

Dark forest is the best muse song since 2009

Dark Forest is pretty good, and acts as an excellent album opener.

THE DETROIT SIGNAL
>>
Incredible album, I'm happy with everything here, my dreams as a long-time fan came true with this.
No other "come back" album satisfied quite as much as this.
The Dark Forest is a modern Muse classic I think, it's insanely well executed.
Nightshift Superstar is one of their best dance numbers.
Shimmering Scars is probably their only outright sad song and it's very well done. They finally learned how to write good melodies again.
Cryogen is sick, very OOS obiviously.
Be With You is frankly great too, I like Nu-Muse in a lot of aspects and this is incredibly well executed, that guitar explosion is a great pay off.
Hexagons is superb, very psychedelic, reminds me of something like Space Dementia
The Sickness In You And I is such an odd creative song that only Muse could make, mixing these heavy funky riffs with poppy melodies.
Unravelling has some of Matt's best lyricism and melodic writting ever, it's a great Alt.Metal song that reminds me of something like Dead Star.
Hush is a song that by all means should fail, but they actually pull it off, which is an insane achievement.
Space Debris is a beatiful dark ballad, going back to the likes of Megalomania and Ruled By Secrecy.
I dunno, I really have nothing bad about this, I like it far more than I thought I would, just great album from top to bottom.

48/100 after 2 listens. Similar to Will of the People and Simulation Theory in quality. Mix of classic Muse, pop songs and some filler which comes down to 4 good songs
>>
>>130769318
Also, Hexagons stands out the most to me. Really, really great song. If they made it a whole album in this quality it would be a massive comeback
>>
Lmao check the Quietus review for the album, it's like it was written by a /mu/tant

https://thequietus.com/quietus-reviews/muse-the-wow-signal/
>>
>>130770136
This part from review (on Nightshift):
>‘Nightshift Superstar’ is Muse at their (do ya think I’m) sexiest and the lyrics of Matt Bellamy, with his voice like a copulating gargoyle, are as frisky as the music. He is mesmerised by the erotic temptations of… who? A lady of the night? An alluring Greek siren? His wife of seven years? Either way, it’s a bit peculiar to involve a children’s choir that includes his own daughter.
>>
>>130769385
I like that "our resistance is mass produced" line. Sounds like a self-aware jab at their vague political messaging, though I'm not sure that was their intent.
>>
Listened a few more times. Not all of the songs necessarily are the best work they've ever done but my god are they more interesting creative endeavors than the last few albums. Love the over the top theatrics in Dark Forest. Incredibly varied sound on the album. And yeah, Matt's lyricism becomes so much better when it's more abstract than political.
>>
>>130770621
>Incredibly varied sound on the album.
Everyone will find something for themselves. I'm ok with that.

Agree

Not sure too
>>
Wow, bump
>>
Cryogen is nice, but the outro blows.
>>
>>130773182
They could have skipped the outro. It's still somewhere around good and great to me.
>>
i think Hush the best track of the album

If they had spent a bit more time actually reviewing the music I would have thought this was a cracking bit of writing.
