What
>>
>>130755699
You know actually write multiple parts, bass, drums, synth, strings, horns, misc percussion
>>
>>130755713
Bass is just lead guitar but lower
Drums are basic things with transitions that are often times just single stroke rolls or a crash cymbal, don't overthink it
Synths are written either like the guitar or are long drawn out chords
>strings
>horns
What are you gay?
>>
>>130755970
I like bands with good drums and bass and additional instrumentstion and percussion and don't just listen to power chord music
>>
>>130755713
as far as bass and drums go, bass players and drummers learn different patterns as they learn their instrument. when you sit down to write parts for an instrument you don't know how to play, you can't just magically pull these patterns out of your ass. you need to either transcribe music and build a vocabulary, or consult people who play these instruments
>>
>>130756002

Taylor has the best note separation and is bright for their normal models, they are also the best in terms of playability, gold labels are woody, normal ones are a bit more hi-fi, in general for fingerstyle fans
Martin has the most bass and is standard for bluegrass players, honestly to me they sound muddy because of the bass and lack of mids, they sound scooped, tones of treble tons of bass
Gibson usually has shorter scale length, scooped midrange but not as scooped and muddy as martin, less note separation than both taylor and martin, and is good for singer-strummers
>>
>>130756868
Also choose your size appropriately

Bought a guitar locally for about half of what they normally go for because one of the pickups doesn’t work but I’m pretty sure it’s just a grounding issue. Tomorrow will be a troubleshooting day and then potentially a day for making a shopping list of parts I might need if I’m wrong, I hate troubleshooting issues but I also love the feeling of figuring it out and fixing it and then feeling like I know my guitar better after. I’m happy with the guitar as is with what I paid but I’ll be a whole lot happier once it’s working 100%

Put monel strings on a Martin and you have the best sounding acoustic money can buy.
>>
>>130756868
Well my main concern is what is more versatile.
I.E. when I mix a song, is it easier to bring down high/bright treble or bring up low treble if that's what I want?
>>
>>130757728
You should really be saying your budget, is this a $3k guitar or are you looking at ~$1k ones? If you are looking around ~$1k you should buy a yamaha red label and not a martin or taylor desu.

In general you will need to run some light compression regardless and you'll have less difficulty mixing, also record with a two mic set-up.
>>
>>130756102
Hahahahahahahaha
>>
>>130757770
The budget red labels have torrefied tops, ebony fretboard, solid mahogany back and sides. Just swap in a bone nut and saddle. You can't get torrefied from martin at that price, and on the taylors you won't get solid back and sides if you do get torrified top.

In the beginning there was no "electric guitar." That's the official story. But have you ever stopped to ask why? Exactly. People will tell you that Leo Fender was just a humble radio repairman. A simple engineer. A man interested in practical design. That's what they want you to think. See, Leo didn't invent the guitar. Guitars already existed. He invented the concept of the guitar as an identity. That's the part they leave out of the history books. Before the late 1940s, musicians simply played instruments. Nobody argued online about ash versus alder. Nobody measured neck radii with digital calipers. Nobody claimed they could hear the difference between maple harvested during a waxing moon versus a waning moon. Humanity was productive. Then Leo unveiled the Telecaster. Notice the shape. People say it's "simple." No.
Those straight lines aren't for manufacturing efficiency. They're geometric thought-guides. Every time you look at one your subconscious performs imperceptible angle calculations that slowly acclimate your brain to accepting arbitrary standards established by a central authority. Ever wonder why guitarists instinctively describe tone with food?
"Creamy mids."
"Buttery highs."
"Chewy compression."
That's linguistic conditioning. Leo knew that if enough adults willingly described sound as dairy products, they'd eventually accept anything. Then came the Stratocaster. Three pickups. Five positions. Except originally three positions.
Think about that.
Three positions forcing players to balance the switch in-between to access sounds that "weren't supposed to exist."
Why would a production guitar accidentally contain hidden tones?
Because Leo wanted to reward independent experimentation while simultaneously ensuring those discoveries all occurred within a predetermined framework. Controlled rebellion.
It's the oldest psychological trick in the book. You think you're escaping the system.
The system manufactured the escape route.
>>
The Gibson crowd believes they're resisting. The boutique builders think they've transcended. Extended-range players laugh from atop their eight-string thrones.
Yet everyone still measures scale length, pickup placement, neck profiles, and ergonomics against reference points established by Leo's original blueprint.
He doesn't need you to buy a Fender.
He only needs you to think in Fender.
By the time you realize your unique taste is merely selecting from branches of a decision tree planted seventy years ago, it's already too late. The greatest trick Leo Fender ever pulled wasn't convincing the world to play electric guitars. It was convincing the world that every guitar conversation should begin with his vocabulary.
The guitar wasn't the invention.
The frame of reference was.
Wake up.

the color is much closer to gray instead of black like the ibanez sr605e-bkt, i prefer it way more, its really bright sounding im not sure if i will put on some darker sounding strings or just go all out and get rotosound 66s. the setup is good out of the box honestly the action is a little too low so i guess thats a good sign. its the nicest playing 5 string ive tried and really little buzz even when i pluck the the b string retard hard, i wish the inlays were in the middle since the strings can obscure them sometimes but its much better than it was on the b4 element i tried

Skip all three. Buy a yamaha LL16 if you are looking to record acoustic.

>yamaha QC is flawless, no worries buying sight-unseen
>sounds incredible immediately bc wood is already aged/torrified
>very low action, feels better and easier to play
>solid as a rock intonation, won't have to be tuning between takes all the time
>perfect tone for recording, its THE acoustic sound you hear on most records
>1/3 of the price

Gibson is out period.
Martin/Taylor CAN sound good, but finding a good one is hit or miss, as it is with all acoustics. Yamaha is the exception to this rule. Trust me bro.

I believe you, but if you are looking for a reliable workhorse acoustic for recording, you can't beat a mid to upper tier yamaha. basically anything they make that is solid top/back/sides is freakishly good for the price. You might have found a decent gibson, but it was only so good bc you didn't take it home with you.

Is Gibsons QC really still bad? I thought they fixed that years ago.
Not really sure why people say I didn't play a good sounding gibson acoustic, I've heard only good things about the songwriter.
>>
>>130762333
dry guitars crack
wet guitars warp

takes years for it to happen one way or the other... in very extreme situations it can happen in a matter of like 6 months, but thats rare. older instruments that have weathered a variety of different conditions over years and years of use are less likely to get damaged in this way. also, torrified/aged instruments like yamaha ARE stuff are more stable.

These are generally only concerns for acoustic instruments. And I don't know if this hurts or helps, but i am constantly going all over CONUS, and climate/humidity is constantly fluctuating. first couple years I own an acoustic I put a few drops of mineral oil on the top/sides, from inside the soundhole where the grain is exposed. I also do this on fretboard every 6 months or so on all guitars, to help preserve the wood and prevent cracking. I have a fender american elite strat with an ebony fretboard, and I got lazy and didn't do this for a couple of years and there is a small hairline crack on the fretboard. It is only cosmetic and you gotta be looking for it to actually notice it.

>Is Gibsons QC really still bad?
It is an acoustic. Quality varies from instrument to instrument, even same make/model. For example I play super expensive dogshit Martins all the time. Same thing with Taylor but it probably has best QC of the big three. Problem with Taylor is they all sound the same up to 900 series. Gibson has the worst QC of the big three. I heard back in 2000's it was terrible, but has improved... but thats mostly when people talk about LPs, very few ppl I know actually have Gibson acoustics.

Bridge pickup is dead, I thought it was a grounding issue then a switch issue but no I’m like 90% sure it’s dead. Not the biggest deal, a set of pickups is $100 from someone like Tonehatch or $150 from Fender, and the cost of pickups on top of what I paid for it still makes it a good deal that I’m happy with. I’d be happier if it didn’t need the work but it wouldn’t have been priced at what it was priced at if I’d didn’t need the work, and I’ll be happy when it’s working 100%

I’m thinking about Lollar but it’s hard to beat like a Fender Pure Vintage 65 set for the cost of one Lollar pickup. This neck pickup is fine but if I’m replacing one why not replace both?

FWIW I have PV65's in my AVRI Jag and I'm thinking about replacing them with Lollars. IMO the PV65 bridge is pretty boomy even with the PUP slammed down, and the bridge PUP is ever-so-slightly thin. Plus in general they're just very low output PUP.

Don't get me wrong, they're great and they do the Jag thing well. They just leave a little to be desired.

It’s got a tort guard but it’s bulging in the center slightly. I’ve got a spare tort guard but this one just looks better so I’ll probably just deal with the deformation of it
>>130763983
My other Jag has PV65s and I like them well enough but honestly I don’t think I’ll get another set just because I don’t want two of the same pickups in two guitars. The AVRI 62 pickups sound a little different than the PV65s so I was happy to have to slightly different voices with my Jags but now I’m having to decide on another set of pickups.
This thing’s buzz stop bar thing is going to go but for now it’ll stay until I set it up with 11s. It didn’t come with a vibrato arm but those are like $20 so no big deal. For what it’s worth the neck pickup sounds great. I like the fatness of the neck on my other Jag but I like the actual feel of this one better, my other Jag has binding on the neck and it makes the shoulders feel very square. They both feel great. I love my other Jag too but I was planning on selling it once this one is all up to speed just because I don’t think I need two Jags

E7? Why it's one of the most fun ones. If you hammer on the 3rd you can go Em7, E7, E7sus, and can hammer the 7th to a 5th. If you hammer the octave root you can make it a shimmery 13 chord. It's one of the best chord shapes to fuck with. E7 shape fucking rules

I don't like playing the shape. And my guitars intonation is fucked up so it always sounds out of tune. No, I do not care that it's a skill issue.
>>

It sounds like a strength issue, switch to .14s on your steel string for 6 months and you'll never have difficulty barring again.
>>
>>130769746
I only have electric and a nylon...
>>
>>130769756
Then get .11s on the electric and tune standard. But you really should get a steel string. It makes your chording and fretting so much more consistent because without the right placement and strength it buzzes so much more easily. On a low budget I would rec the epiphone el00.

>>130767653
I walked up to the counter and asked what the lowest they'd go on it was. It was the easiest negotiation I've ever done, they probably had it for a while
>>130767609
Pawn shops usually give 20-30% of what they're going to sell an item for, so there's always massive wiggle room. Longer something sits the more they'll go down. Guitar center for comparison gives 40-60%, so there's less room but you can still ask for a bit off.
>>
>>130769783
I already use .10s. But yeah, I could use a steel string. Is reverb trust worthy? I've never ordered online before

Honestly if all you want it for is practice with fretting you can just get a rogue starter. If you can make a shitty guitar sound good then your fretting is perfect. They used to be $60 but I think they're $80 now. They're a good training instrument imo. I used to use one and just focus on making it sound good and barring with it being even more difficult. After playing on it the classical and electric will feel like rock lee taking off his leg weights

I want to learn classical/flamenco style of playing, but I only have a budget acoustic from 10 yrs ago

There’s literally nothing wrong with this, right? Just that the size and strings will be a bit awkward for placement/playing?

Nylon guitars have wider space between strings and offer a different tone. This matters if you plan on learning with nails
