I've been going to punk, metal, and indie shows since I was a kid and the worst, meanest, most unpleasant group has always been the indie/alternative fans. They're constantly judging other people, snickering, and mistreating targets. Ironically, the worst people at metal shows have been poseur types. The only metal show I can think of where people were really awful was at a Slaughter to Prevail show, and that was a deathcore audience so they're already low IQ. Black Metal, death metal, hardcore, and doom metal audiences have always been really nice. I think the only issue with extreme metal audiences is sometimes you get people who aren't very conscientious or socially aware, so you sometimes get people who smell bad or smoke out the place, but that isn't really hatable. Try going to a true extreme metal show. I know people online can be weird, but IRL at extreme metal shows, people usually just think it's cool that you're there and like the same thing they do. I know J Dawg is sort of the emblem of metal gatekeepers, but IRL even he's a dorky oaf.
