What are your thoughts on Manson?
>>
>>130794079
i thought he was a tranny alien as a kid, some fat midget girl in junior high was obsessed with him, not sure if his posts 90's stuff is good
>>
>>130794102
Clearly disturbed and molested as a child
>>
>>130794079
all package and no substance imo. The imagery and sounds are supposed to be freaky but musically it's pretty tame. That didn't stop him from being something of an icon for kids who wanted to be freaks in high school in the 90s though. I got a small amount of respect for him just for being important to those kids looking for something deeper, hopefully they found Ministry before they became too big of losers
It's funny how the public narrative of him switched from "he's making kids do columbine" to "actually he's a smart articulate guy" to "actually he's retarded"
>>
>>130794181
Yea he also got super bloated and fell of stages and was an alcoholic

His early imagery was striking no doubt up until Holy Wood album but he is all style no substance your right and after Hollywood he clocked like 1 good song per album which is a really shitty track record
>>
>>130794079
he is a good composer unironically
>>
Charles was better
>>
>>130794079
always surrounded himself with capable musicians and songwriters, but can’t deny that the guy has a talent for his part of the writing process
>>
>>130794079
wishes he was trent reznor
>>
>>130794465
yeah he is very creative
>>
>>130794465
Everyone besides his own bandmates (that he went though a lot) ended up having problems with him. But if he had his say on everything all of his earlier music would end up sounding like Long Hard Road Out Of Hell
>>
But Manson did make Mechanical Animals post Trent and all Trent did was basically soundtracks
>>
Getting off topic but everything post Pretty Hate Machine gets progressively worst but people are just lying about it. He also recycles melodies and lyrics and just goes back to the same thing song after song
>>
>>130794079
Guess he's good but overrated a little
>>
>>130794079
some of his early shit is fun, mostly the singles, but he was always kind of not that interesting musically and the industrial metal Alice Cooper thing did nothing for me. he hasn't done anything good in around 20 years.
the sexual assault allegations did not impact my view of him at all because I already knew he was a rapist. I mean look at him
>>
>>130794492
Its the other way around. Its why he took Manson under his wing and then disappeared for a decade. He didn't have what it took to be a rock star someone that was always in the spotlight
>>
>>130794697
You don't get the hype because you haven't seen his music videos or know about the concept behind Anti Christ Superstar
>>
>>130794079
First record is solid, and some of the really early spooky kids stuff is good. I gruadated high school the year he blew up. So many fake mansonite kids who were listening to 311 a year earlier lol
>>
How did middle schoolers know about bands like Manson before they broke? Was it staying up late watching MTV? Everyone seemed to also know about Korn since their debut
>>
>>130795295
Good Question. MTV definitely played a role. Also Hot Topic. Every Hot Topic in the 90s had Marilyn Manson playing in it, tons of his shirts. You could buy CDs too. My first exposure to Manson was the hot topic CD rake, probably in 1995.

>>130794079
Only ever enjoyed The Beautiful People. The rest of it I don't care for, also seems like a major egomaniac.
>>
>>130794079
mechanical animals > ziggy
>>
Antichrist Superstar and Mechanical Animals are legit great animals
>>
He was great in Sons of Anarchy.
>>
>>130794079

>How did the world even exist before the internet?

lol
>>
>>130794079
The last rockstar
>>
guess one of the fags who shot up columbine had a manson poster in his room so he got blamed for the whole thing
>>
>>130794792
I saw them, I know the story, I just wasn't impressed
>>
>>130794079
He's basically singing in a Marilyn Manson cover band now.
>>
Everything he did Japan did better
>>
>>130795295
Older sibling or cousin going "hey, listen to this" and then playing you a song with swear words and then you tell your friends about it
>>
>>130794079
Never liked him, he looks gay and scary.
>>
He did these hilarious interviews with Bill O'Reilly where he came off as strikingly thoughtful and articulate while bill tried to pin him as the antichrist
