Best (and perhaps only good) fusion album is Szobel by Hermann Szobel.
>>130800715>is this fusion?Yeah, sounds like it. Seems like you'd enjoy more of the glossy late 70s / early 80s stuff that Fusion has to offer. Here's some album recs: >Spyro Gyra - Morning Dance >Weather Report - Mr. Gone >Bob James - Touchdown >Ramsey Lewis - Tequila Mockingbird >Jeff Lorber - Galaxian >Yellowjackets S/T >Casiopea - 4X4 >Chuck Mangione - Feels So Good>Jeff Tyzik - Prophecy
>>130800719>perhaps only goodkys, tryhard
>>130798544heh, you're that guy from the zappa thread>favorite Fusionbitches brew>favorite non-Fusioncan't pick one...out to lunchpoint of departureintents and purposesthe black saint>favorite zappauncle meat
dead thread
One album is pretty hard, but for jazz it's bill evans waltz for debby, kind of blue and ahmad jamal live in paris (1971), for fusion it's bitches brew and São Paulo, Brasil by Cesar Mariano & Cia. I can't really decide which one I like the most, but I prefer modal jazz over fusion.
>>130807151Fusion threads always are, and rightfully so. If OP had not mentioned the F word this would've been a booming jazz thread, instead of a dead fusion thread. >>130802057Try deez nuts.
>Max Roach - Parisian Sketches>Miles Davis - In A Silent Way (The Complete Sessions)
Listening to this heady shit rn.
Holy fucking KINO. This is the last Davis/Gil collaboration I listened to, and it seems I unwittingly saved the best for last. Perfect combination of cool jazz mood and instrumentation and operatic grandiosity.>>130800308>>130810098>In A Silent Way (The Complete Sessions)Great pick and easily the best listen of all the "Complete Sessions" releases, but isn't that cheating a bit?Regardless, for myself it's gotta be:>Non-fusionSun Ship (Coltrane)>FusionA Tribute to Jack Johnson (Davis)
>>130798544Picking one jazz album is impossible, but with fusion I guess I'd go with Emily's D+Evolution.
there's always talk of moody albums for late nights and smokey bars, but what are the go-tos for getting up late in the morning and sipping on a cup of coffee when you have the day off?
>>130815789larping is for faggots, try asking black metal fans for recs
>>130814176The crescendo on Doctor Jesus is by far one of the most kino moments of the 1950s
>>130815851I thought it was pretty transparent I was asking for recs, you can search the archives and find dozens of threads and posts about moody jazz
>>130815973>I thought it was pretty transparent I was asking for recsi know. that's why i used the word recs.
>>130815789i woke up in the middle of the day just now, went to the pizza place close by, had a pint outside waiting for my pizza and i was thinking about this song most of the time https://youtu.be/KWuNtOlAYS8
So good.
>>130816102I love the opening track, rest of the album is pretty good/10 imo
>>130816102its good for what it is, but to be honest im rarely in the mood for what it is. i mostly want swing and a melody thats enjoyable to sing, thats enough to get me to want to be with a record for months. i posted picrel because its a fusion record that heavily invites you to sing
>>130815789>what are the go-tos for getting up late in the morning and sipping on a cup of coffee when you have the day off?
>>130816158joe henderson is flavorless as fuck
>>130816248he walked that tightrope walk between music being difficult and a bit heady but still being rooted in the blues better than anyone
>>130816390lol
>>130816234this is a good one, I guess I was looking for less well known recsI think a lot of spiritual jazz can also fit the bill>>130816070sounds quite nice anon, both the tune and the pizzaadmittedly I haven't really listened to Sonny, but I'll need to give this record and his other work a listen
>>130816400in terms of the average quality of his output and the length of his career joe henderson is objectively the greatest jazz musician who ever lived. billy harper is ok i guess
>>130816460even stanley turrentine and shirley scott were better lol
>>130815789Disregard the awful cover art; pic related is grade A, upbeat latin jazz.Maybe a bit better for after you've had you're coffee and are already awake. Either way, it's got solid energy throughout for taking on the day.
>>130816621can confirm, that album is fucking tight
>>130815789This one gives me that vibe.
>>130802057enjoying fusion is arguably more tryhard than hating it
>>130818149*if you're white
>>130815789
>>130818162ridiculous take
>>130818188Blue Note is actually worse than fusion. So overrated. Couldn't keep up with the times by the mid 60s. Mugged hard by Prestige, then Impulse, then CTI, then Muse. That's a longer losing streak then their hot one.
>>130818267we get it timmy, you're white.
>>130818265*if you're white

>>130815789>>130815973>go-tos for getting up late in the morning and sipping on a cup of coffee when you have the day off?You are going to want to listen to Earl Klugh. His whole discography is pretty great but for morning cup of joe, I like 1980's "Dream Come True" and 1979's "Heart String". He has a song called "Moving On" that could be straight out of a>x is part of a balanced breakfastcommercial for Metamucil or a toaster or something. You will NOT be disappointed.

>>130807151My Whiplash thread yesterday was better - you know why? Because I baited anons into posting
almost 20 years ago, there was this great local jazz radio station that played delicious jazz greats. songs focused on vocalizing, freeform, songs based on loopy bass, plus some standards, and so on. Every song they played was different and showcased the richness of jazz. I wish I could find something like this again. It's very difficult to say what kind of jazz you are looking for, without being a conoisseur. It would be easier, if there was some podcast presenting different variations of jazz
>>130825575It wasn't better, Adam

>>130827432Most jazz nerds arent ready to have that conversation. Blue Note gets glazed because it's the correct, music geek approved form of jazz. And for the record, I'm indifferent to fusion. Some is good, some is whack. But at the end of the day jazz is bigger than hard bop. And there were labels that were just as influential or important to jazz as a whole as BN.>>130827443

>>130852820...
If you had a time machine and could back in the past to dick down any female jazz musician, who would you pick?I'd probably go for Candy Dulfer. Or if I can bend my own rules Chaka Khan. She has nice thighs and is always smiling on her album covers.

>>130867087no love for shelly manne?
>>130855414good album. we need more criss cross discussion in these threads, fusion talk is extremely played out on both sides
>>130868619This was the first jazz album that I actually loved. Before this I had heard Kind of Blue, Love Supreme and Space is the Place. And all were meh to me. Felt like albums I was supposed to like as a music fan more than something I actually enjoy. But for whatever reason, this is the one that connected with me. Now that I'm older I recognize the superiority of West Coast jazz as opposed to that noodley nigga noise coming out of Jew York.
