I don't know man, these guys just seem like another manufactured attempt at bringing rock back. Greta Van Fleet part deux after they failed to live upto expectations. An album and playing festivals and all this behind-the-scenes footage when the band...it's just suspect.
>>130807898no one knows who this is

>>130808020don't care, will not watch.
>>130808027>don't careand yet here you are in this thread. curious!
>>130807898are you one of the faggots in the picture or their record label pr guy?
yoooooooo he's a gamer i fw that fr fr
>>130807898>what if greta van fleet also dressed like led zeppelin besides just sounding like them
>>130807898whoa, they're like the british Greta Van Fleet
>>130808020That's...actually not that bad. I take my hat off to you, zoomers. Maybe there's hope for your generation after all.
>>130808020lol those lyrics are 100% AI>give me upbeat lyrics to a 4/4 rock song about living in the moment and cherishing it before it's gone
>>130807898Greta Van Fleet's problem was that they couldn't play live to save their lives. If you're going to copy loud bombastic arena rock like Led Zeppelin and you can't even play live without sounding cringe then you're NGMI. If they managed to put on even one decent live show it could've saved their career.
>>130810633that and they were gay
>>130810633but led zeppelin couldn't play live without sounding cringe
>>130810633they couldn't play period. their songwriting is shit. leaned way too much into the pop aspect and they just completely lost it.
>>130810688post your favorite artists/albums so we can judge your tastes
>>130810694it was apparent to me that they had no feel for rock or how to write a rock song
>>130810724>>130810694They didn't understand the Blues. Zeppelin was fundamentally a blues band. Their understanding of the source material was very apparently superficial.
GVH were never serious they had more in common with the Osmonds than even a lower tier 70s rock group like Humble Pie or Mountain.
>>130810759IDK maybe they heard those licks somewhere else
>>130810741>They didn't understand the Blues.true. they were basically a zeppelin pastiche that had no idea about the fundamentals.
>>130810859this is the sole reason rock is dead. it was always a parasitic genre and it died as soon as it only knew how to feed on itself.
>>130810701here come the judge
>>130810871all music genres steal from something else, that's how art works, moron
>>130807898Saw them earlier this summer. They were really good.
>>130810901t. the drummer's mom
bump
>>130808020Better than GVF but not by much. Get back to me when someone's as good as Wolfmother and then we can talk about getting anywhere close to zeppelin. Its sad really, it really shouldn't be impossible to make hooks as good as Page and sing 80% as good as plant but these guys always sound way too nasally too Geddy lee
>>130809521GVF doesnt sound like zeppelin
>>130810688Im willing to take this but still say that no band ever produced hard rock as perfectly as zeppelin in studio
Doom, sludge, and stoner metal are actually pretty popular in the underground, and I think bands like Pallbearer and Baroness are probably the most organic modern form of the Sabbath/Zeppelin sound. The problem with these revivalist bands is they sound so manufactured, and it feels like kids cosplaying 70s rock. That wasn't true in the past with Zeppelin-style bands, because they used to be organically parts of their own scenes. Whitesnake was glam metal, Soundgarden were grunge, Jane's Addiction were alt rock, Wolfmother was basically part of the garage rock revival hipster thing, and that gave those bands legitimacy. Nobody wants some industry plant dress up band.
>>130811315think the main missing ingredient is that none of these kids can write riffs like Page did. Guitar rock was so riff based back then, A lot of Zep songs use Page's riff as the centerpiece. No Quarter is my favorite example of Zep's songwriting, Page came up with a sick ass riff and the rest of the song is clearly built around arriving at that riff in the most dramatic way possible. The clothes, genre, and singing voice isn't enough, which is all that GVF and this new band seem to offer
>>130808020Why does every Zep-alike band since the beginning of time misses the point?
>>130812338>Doom, sludge, and stoner metalThey're also an organic outgrowth of the '70s heavy rock scenes that went underground, not revivalists. Pentagram is the missing link. The documentary Such Hawks Such Hounds goes into this
>>130812338>Doom, sludge, and stoner metalAnother thing about them is that they've oddly always have been more connected to the indie and punk continuum than to metal proper, because at heart they always have been regressive to every post-NWOBHM trend in metal, they're really only considered metal genres so far as you take into account the original critical definition of '70s rock mags that called Zeppelin and Thin Lizzy metal
>>130814534>Such Hawks Such HoundsI'll definitely check this out! I knew the punk scene supported Saint Vitus since the glam and thrash kids didn't like doom and it was too weird for them, but I never thought about it in the way you described, it makes sense
never heard of em.Anways, if you are going to do some pastiche retro rock thing you got to do a fusion, you got to combine guns and roses with kiss or something, make something new out of the old
Why.....WHY DO THEY ALWAYS RIP OFF LED ZEPPLIN!!??!?!??!Where are the queen rip offs, or the van halen rip offs, or the aerosmith rip offs or the kiss rip offs.ripping off led zepplin has been such a cliche that ozzy ozbourn even sang on a song called "led clones" making fun of themhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrl_09GTkVw
>>130816889say what? all hair metal bands stole from Van Halen/Aerosmith/KISS.
>>130816905im talking about present day rip offs you dip
>>130807898Ripping off Led Zeppelin in 2026 is like if bands in the 60's and 70's were going around larping as ragtime bands from the 1910's. Pop culture is so fucking stagnant its just depressing.
>>130817001beatles were ripping off the 1920s, especially paul and his granny tunesyour mother should know, honey pie, the list goes onId be happier if they attemmpted to rip off other bands, but for some reason its always led zepplin.Like, rip off the doors or something, no one ever ripped off the doors, you would be a pioneer !
>>130817001Come on they always did it. "Ballin' The Jack" (covered here) was originally written in 1914.
>>130817030lets all get up and dance to a song that was a hit before your mother was born, and she was born a long long time agoyour mother should know
>>130817041what's different is they modernized old songs for the present day like was done here, giving those songs a rock-and-roll update. that's not exactly like the Zeppelin tribute act GVF did.
the key to being a good rip off band is to rip off something obscure and just old enough to be forgotten like how the strokes are just a version of the band television If i were going to rip something off it would be like some obscure sophistopop band like orange juice or aztec camera
>>130817074Thus stagnant culture. It's one thing to _cover_ old shit, another to just do a tribute act to it.
>>130817041Dinah Shore covers this old chestnut from the Gay Nineties. It was almost 50 years old when she did this version in 1941.
>>130816889if you're ripping off van halen and aerosmith you're just ripping off led zeppelin lmao
>>130817138in fact apparently it was first recorded to an Edison wax cylinder in 1893
>>130817262van halen was a complete break from led zepplin, positive Californian ray of sunshine in the late 70s that would show people you dont have to rip off zepplin anymore and would go on to influence the rise of hair metal
>>130810688amazing musicians, minus Page whose songwriting madeup for his sloppyness
