Why don't we have genius musicians making original music like we used to have?
>>130863211we do. they're just super uncommercial and the bottom fell out of the industry decades ago so they're all hobbyists making weird shit they post directly to bandcamp or never release at all.
>>130863211There is no ''original'' music per se because we've basically exhausted all novelties in the medium and don't have as drastic and quick of a technological boom in recording techniques as we've done during the past 60 years. As far as people attempting to express themselves in ways that differ from the established meta, then that's still a thing as >>130863232 pointed out. If you can think of it, then somebody else must have done it and put it on soundcloud/bandcamp to an audience of 30 listeners before you
>>130863289>>130863232>>130863211We all know why. Let's discuss what this means / what to do about it.
>>130863322I'll make the logo
1980s pop artist Bruce Hornsby is rapping over modern classical music these dayshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6ZM7aPnykw The bibulous lush is in his cupsMr. Concupiscence is tumescent to the touchHe said, "You're not funny like your dadand maybe you could use a good scouring pad"
>>130863322all we really can do is keep making and/or searching for dope shit
>>130863611what you got? latest i hve found that stood out is Singeli music, but it's kinda ehh. just african dance music, but fast with modern sounds. kinda good but not amazing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QgCSt6PPGs>>130863546that's unfortunate
>>130863211We do, though.
>>130863211we do
it used to be that culture changed very quickly. taking a given group of years, say 1978-81, each year had its own entirely different sound and vibe to it
>>130863322Just keep listening to music and develop a good enough bullshit detector to parse out where the artist's heart lies. You had guys like Alan Vega who were still making absolutely weird ass industrial music at age 70 and his mate Martin Rev was doing cutesy 50s bubblegum music in space with a makeshift synth as a senior citizen before he wrote a classical piece for orchestras just because he could. Some people are wired to keep digging out of passion.
In this decade, we have, for example, him (and several of his imitators)
>>130864357This guy made me regret not taking up music in my teenage years
>>130863211a number of reasons:1. economy is incredibly shit, everyone is working too many jobs to support themselves2.zoomies are very numbers-oriented and bigger number on a stream = betterer3. having a good music taste isn't really a big social factor anymore + people throw on playlists without much artist-level recognition4. "underground" music is expected to sound a very specific way 5. local music scenes are infected by insane levels of cancel culture/moralfaggotry which splits up bands and prevents anyone from being edgy6. artists need to be transgressive, but being genuinely transgressive is nearly impossible due to extreme social surveillance, SM algos favouring existing things, moralfaggotry infecting everyone's minds, etc
>>130863211Yeat
>>130863211Mediums mature. There are only so many instruments and notes. You've already heard so much stuff and it's hard to be impressed or surprised. It's even harder to create something original. We're on music's long tail, and it's just not that interesting anymore.
>>130864532>5. local music scenes are infected by insane levels of cancel culture/moralfaggotry which splits up bands and prevents anyone from being edgy>6. artists need to be transgressive, but being genuinely transgressive is nearly impossible due to extreme social surveillance, SM algos favouring existing things, moralfaggotry infecting everyone's minds, etcliterally just don't rape people. that's all you have to do.
because when a certain someone tried and made something completely original, you called it "shit" because it was like nothing else you heard beforehttps://youtu.be/eOofWzI3flA
>>130864572you're retarded.
>>130864576it's actually "don't get accused of rape" which is a bit more of a dice roll depending on your scene
>>130864784Almost all of the great novels have also already been written, faggot. Music just isn't that interesting anymore, and that's a good thing. I'm glad people are listening to podcasts instead of the same music over and over again.
>>130864576literally just admit that trans women are real women
>>130864833you're retarded.
>>130864900>t. butthurt record exec
>>130864833reeeeeetarrrddddddddddd
>>130863211It has a lot to do with worship of genres and past trends. It's a token of coolness to know about all that stuff and prove it by referencing it, so it blocks people from their deeper, essential inspiration.
>>130864833would be flawless bait if you didn't mention podcasts
>>130864576It's worse than that. There are naughty no-no words. you can't be rumoured to be have isms or be an ist of some kind, even if you don't give a shit (you HAVE to give a shit). With regard to lyrics, the default assumption is that you are actively advocating for the content of your songs, so you can't write about edgy topics. Whereas music often served as the perfect ground for approaching edgy/weird content safely, it's now pre-neutered in a stifling and corporate way. Also, teenagers and young adults are the biggest consoomers of new music, and it's important for them to feel transgressive, like they're doing something different for real. This is unironically why NHH or incelcore got any traction, despite it being alright musically. Also, The problem with SA allegations isn't that it happens or doesn't, but rather that it's all treated with identical severity. Slapping someone is physical assault, and so is beating the shit out of them, but we don't equate them as being equally wrong. Giving enthusiastic consent and then silently withdrawing it midway through, is not the same as being pressured into drinking/doing drugs and having someone force themselves on you. People who are SA'd should be taken seriously, but with obvious nuance that doesn't seem to exist at all
>>130867492Prove me wrong. Oh wait you can't.
>>130868128are you familiar with the concept of radio shows
>>130863322would our favorite painter have approved of kraftwerk's discography and contribution to german kultur?
>>130868286so are you saying the art form we know and love is just over and new things will be so new that even appreciation itself will look different in their light?
>>130868260They weren't as wide-ranging, entertaining, or portable as podcasts are. They also always had unskippable ads.
>>130864576>chick regrets having sex with you months or years later>cries rape>life ruinedThe problem isn't that this happens so much. The problem is all the kids know it happens and it makes them all more risk adverse than our generations were. That's what I see in their music. Risk aversion. Weak shit. Just more in general.
