Anyone else miss vaporwave?

Maybe I'm just being a corny newgen, but I remember loving the music and a e s t h e t i c when I was a teen.

I'm also interested to hear what some of your favorite songs were to come out of this era.

name one big artist doing one great song in that genre.
>hard mode: no jew allowed

Greatest musical movement of the 2010s. Man, what a time it was to be alive.
>>
>>130872250
I mean my gateway drug into the genre was Ginseng Strip - Yung Lean
>>
im convinced that リサフランク420 / 現代のコンピュー is the greatest song of the 2010s
>>
>>130872219
I miss it being novel
>>

After a defeated day of work in the evening sunset I’d cook dinner to this and love the vibe as I watch the stove and step out back for a quick cig.

Even though it's musically rather unspectacular in itself, when Vaporwave was new I was extremely fascinated by the Midnight Television EP.
It just captured that feeling so perfectly: hazy childhood memories of secretly sitting in front of the TV at night, when the world still didn’t quite make sense yet.

9 Disconscious - Hologram Plaza
8 Surfing - Deep Fantasy
7 Chuck Person's Eccojams
6 computer slime - mist
5 2814 - Birth of a New Day
4 Esprit - virtua.zip
3 Skeleton - Holograms
2 Miami Vice - Palm Haze
1 Midnight Television

Discovering it for the first time was incredible, I even started viewing certain areas of my city in a different way since the music match them so well (being they were 80s and 90s business parks). I still enjoy the stuff even now but ironically it doesn't feel the same now that the time has passed and vaporwave isn't new anymore.

Based list. Got some more late night TV style reccs?
>>
>>130874423
lindsheaven virtual plaza - daily night euphoria is a classic
ghosting - telenights is pretty good too
to a lesser extent luxury elite's TV party. it's good tpo, I just don't dig lux elite as much
>>
>>130874492
Funny thing about Luxury Elite is I used to speak with him years ago when Blind Date came out (which is why I found him in the first place). We were going to try and do a track or a split EP together but it just never happened for whatever reason.
>>
>>130874509
i'm actually kinda shocked lux is a guy because vaporwave was so heavily trans back in the heyday
I joined some discords thinking i'd have my ear to the ground for hot new tracks and I just found a bunch of servers full of whiny teenagers being trans
anyway lux is cool and I love some lux tracks/albums but just not as much my bag as, like, midtel or early bl00dwave
>>
>>130874631
As far as I know he's a guy, we only spoke over messages rather than voice and nothing came up except for music and imagery (for album art, aesthetics etc). Collabs back then were never in-person, we'd all just record our parts separately and one person would end up doing the final mixing.

>anyway lux is cool and I love some lux tracks/albums
I really enjoyed his lo-fi vaporwave stuff but he started doing some more clean sounding stuff that was original and didn't rely on samples, and I wasn't as into that. Really nice guy though, shame I never ended up working with him.

>>130874890
They're mostly the same thing, so I don't get what your point was.
>>
>>130874890
i've never seen this happen
>>
>>130872219
This genre was all about chopping and stretching samples and the artifacts and textures that sprang up after that, palpably demonstrating some of the beat writing strategies to dilla and madlib?
>>
I like Bon Chic (even if some consider it AI slop) and some of the 'barberwave' beats like Macroblank still.
>>
Weedhitler and Vektroid were dating but ended up splitting.

Vaporwave was more influential than retarded PC music
>>
>>130874809
No, she really is a (not trans lol) woman.
Some jeets and chuds had a meltdown about it later too.
>The music is actually bad. If she weren't a woman, it wouldn't be nearly as well-known.
Yet during its peak phase it was genuinely (almost) unknown.
>>
>>130872219
I still listen to telepath every now and then
>>
>>130872219
It was a great thing to get in on the ground floor of. Just like nostalgia, its a fleeting memory of what it was already reminiscing of (slowed down obscure 80s pop).
Plus with all the jap characters and boilerplate albums, it'll be hard to talk about these things as time goes on. It was such a low barrier to entry that it kinda mirrors ai slop and just how samesy it got. Basically Vaporwave was speedrun into the ground
>>
>>130875880
well shit. I find that equally surprising. I had just figured lux was a trans woman
>>130876747
much like punk before it, the relatively low technical/skill barrier to entry led to a flood pf samey stuff, but the highlights are truly great

Even back then I knew it was cringy half-assed ambient music

it conditioned young people into thinking kenny g, steely dan, enya, simcity 3000 ost, elevator music and so on were actually cool
