Brian Wilson was very much ahead of his time as a producer but the world he lived in was very much grounded in 1960s Los Angeles, and Pet Sounds really evokes that I think, in a way it was him showcasing the absolute best a Hollywood sound producer could offer, in that respect he was a master at what he was doing, but if you're comparing Pet Sounds to a Beatles record or any of the other Pop/Rock records of the era it might not work for you because it's definitely not that. I think in a different timeline Brian Wilson becomes a Brian Eno type but we don't live in that timeline unfortunately.

It sounded like generic 60s Rock. And I moved on and 2 years later I even forgot most about it. Maybe I will re-listen to it one day.
