why did she peak so early? Pure Heroine and Melodrama was released when she was 16 and 19 respectively
since then, all her works have been duds
wtf happened during her 20s that made her decline in every single way?

An anon offered this take which sounds right to me:
Her legacy rests on the debut (normies), which appears to be the type of record that spawns fresh Tiktok hits to this day, and the 'shouldabeen' favorite Melodrama (wpopfags). Both are good albums from someone so young.

Everybody was ready to give last year's punished Lorde a new chance after Solar Howler but the rollout was somehow even more cringe this time around. And the songs just didn't deliver. It was quite refreshing to see people who otherwise praise everything concede that this was sauceless.

Turns out that no one wanted Adult Lorde and her dimwitted musings on gender and Growing Up. Her attempt to rebrand as some sort of club kid casualty fell flat. Much like with child actors, past a certain age precocious always tilts into pretentious.

Tour did surprisingly well, but people mostly came for the Pure Heroine numbers. It's nice to see Royals slowly being overtaken by other songs on streaming though.

laff'd too much

She's a casualty of Brat Summer.
She tried to get a record out capitalising on her verse with Charli but it ended up sounding like reheated Melodrama.

I hope she'll have some kind of a comeback. Always liked her music.

>Pure Heroine and Melodrama was released when she was 16 and 19 respectively
you have the answer already
she was a product with particular parameters and her expiration date assigned right away

it shouldn’t be surprising tbphwyf
most people cant write music at all. they cant come up with good original melodies or decent lyrics. some talented people can put together a few songs, maybe enough for an album if theyre lucky. an even smaller number might have another album or two in them, but the longer you go on the well gets drier and drier. its extraordinarily rare for someone to be able to continually write good music over a period of years or decades. obviously some can, but the vast, overwhelming majority can't.

this is also why, in many cases, fans of an artist or band will very often favour the "first few albums," or say stuff like "the early stuff was the best," because thats genuinely where the true creativity was. in making those albums the artist learns the mechanics of music creation to a professional level and can continue it in production-line style, churning out more competently made but ultimately meh albums for as long as they keep selling, without ever recapturing the freshness or inspiration of their first works.

If this were true, why did Beethoven release his best stuff towards the end of his life?

case in point. she said her piece on Tapestry about her divorce from Gerry Goffin and having gotten that off her chest had nothing more to say.

There were plenty of artists who got better as they got older

not everyone is a sincere craftsman like Frank Sinatra that could just go on forever, most run off a limited gimmick that gets quickly played out

probably because he was a once-in-a-few-centuries music genius

>plenty
a small minority
name 25. then someone else can name 250 who got worse or stopped making music entirely
do people have such bad reading comp that they don’t understand words like most, some, a few etc.
the occasional exception doesn’t alter the fact that it usually goes the other way

He was, but there are countless other composers and songwriters you can say this about: Tchaikovski, Brahms, Mahler, Stravinski, Dvořak, Haydn. Bruckner didn't even start composing his first masterwork till his late 30s. When Mozart was that age, he was dead.

>why did she peak so early?
if you don't make actual music, it is far likelier to peak early. you're hungry, and you haven't given up yet. but you also don't really have a craft to hone.
if you make actual music, you can peak early. you can also spend a decade or more learning and experimenting which could lead to your magnum opus. it is, however, very rare for anyone to create kino after the age of 40.

>countless
no, easily countable. plus you then go on to name composers from the highest tiers of the western canon. please compare their output over time to the actually countless obscure nobodies who's music is barely remembered. or, if you want further confirmation, the middling talents who are known for one or two great pieces but the rest of their output is mediocre.
again, to reiterate, the point Im making here is that the vast majority of musicians or composers whether in popular or classical music do not have an infinite well of originality and creativity to draw from. if that were the case, anyone capable of creating one good or great piece of music would continue to produce work of a similarly high calibre for the rest of their life. we all know that doesn’t happen in any but the rarest cases of genius.
