self-titled sucks. i can see picking either/or but songwriting quality peaks on xo. figure 8 was a big step down, weaker songs and crazy bloated in comparison. basement is probably better. new moon mogs self-titled also

it doesnt suck but his songwriting ambitions are outrunning his skill at that early point. the songs are kinda half-baked, a lot of the changes feel stilted. even clementine, his first great song, is a little bit like that. also needle in the hay is like new slang with the shins, enormously overrated songs from artists with infinitely superior work because they got put in movies. also i just realized they're both the first songs off their respective first albums. it's like some hollywood idiot had their albums recommended to him and never made it past the first song
