I'm visiting Brazil's biggest city and it has an entire neighborhood dedicated entirely to east Asian stuff, from anime to Chinese food to kpop, and I walked around here for three hours to check which kpop groups are the most popular. Here are my conclusions:1. BTS is by far the most popular. Over half the kpop merch on sale was BTS merch (mostly the group itself, followed by jungkook and that one guy who's very ugly - not jhope, the other one). When I stopped to eat some dessert there was a really old guy and an old woman (at least in her mid 50s) talking about cosplay, and then they started talking about kpop and she was an army. the old man asked if her husband didn't get jealous but she said he helped her pay for her hobby, although he did dislike that she had more namjoon photos than his on her phone. Honestly seeing old people discussing kpop made me embarrassed of being a kpop fan. Do we look as cringe as her to normies?2. Blackpink is the second most popular. Almost every girl group merch on sale was Blackpink's.3. There were a few Stray Kids and Enhypen stuff on sale too so they're probably the 3rd most popular.4. I saw a single Spaghetti shirt on sale that was super small and probably meant for children.5. I saw absolutely nothing from groups that are supposed to be popular abroad, like Twice, NewJeans and Treasure.6. One of the stores I walked into was playing GOLD by Itzy.7.
