Can /mu/ recommend good country music albums that are actually enjoyable listens (not plodding endurance contests with a couple hits) AND are not depressing? Is that even possible?
Alan Jackson sucks though.
>>130924188Idk who that is. I don't listen to country but I'd like to
>>130924163I dunno what you mean by plodding endurance contests but the best country is always gonna be depressing anonTry some bluegrass like Trampled by Turtles or The Dillards or something
>>130924188His first few albums are great though, full of classic Nashville session musicians.
From the 1960s, Merle Haggard and Charley pride both put out a few good albums. From the 1970s, check out Johnny paychecks "11 months, 29 Days" and "Slide Off Your Satin Sheets", both are great albums all the way through. For the 1980s, try George Strait and Clint Black's first few albums, both are good Texas style Western Swing. For the 1990s, anything by Dwight Yoakam.
>>130924765I found Sturgill Simpson and I liked him
>>130924163Try Gram Parsons album Grievous Angel there is some sadness to it but give it a try lad
>>13092416316 Horsepower Sackcloth n Ashes
>>130924163Lucinda Williams - Car Wheels on a Gravel Road
>>130927010>For the 1990s, anything by Dwight Yoakamseconding.for country, I mostly listen to singles compilations and greatest hits packages like a pleb. but that's valid for classic country. I have the Time Life golden hits compilations by decade and they're awesome, Loretta Lynn , Patsy Cline, Hank Sr. comps. but only Lynn was even making output in the album era. Hank and Patsy were singles artists anyway, so there's no reason to be dogmatic about listening to their LP releases except the comps.a couple LPs I can recommend:Hank Williams III - Risin' OutlawLoretta Lynn - Van Lear RoseWillie Nelson - Stardust, although there's some torch songs on there, I guess The Longhorn Jamboree Presents Willie Nelson and Friends , this one is more entertaining and upbeat Dwight Yoakam - Pieces of Time
>>130924163if you want more traditional country go for Townes van Zandt self titled, and alt country, magnolia electric company by Jason Molina is also great
